Tube Rolling MF X-CAN V3
I don't have any experience with the X-CAN but according to this review it uses two 6922 tubes. The specs published with the amp say two ECC82 tubes, are used. Those and the 6922 are the same tube with different designations.
Sennheiser HD 650 Headphones
I stumbled into having a pair of headphones when I saw a new pair of Sennheiser 600's on craigslist for $100 and couldn't pass them up. I soon after found a great deal here on audiogon on a Headroom Little More Plus headphone amp. I'm using an Ah!...
product you use for dusting equipment
Microfiber detailing towels work well if you use a light touch. They're available in bulk packs in the automotive sections of big-box stores like Costco and Sam's Club.
christmas music
"An Austin Rhythm and Blues Christmas" is the antidote for shopping mall music. Kim Wilson singing and playing harmonica with The Fabulous Thunderbirds doing "Merry Christmas, Darling" puts the X in Xmas.
how to get my ipod songs on my mac?
Do you mean is there way to copy files from an iPod to a Mac what aren't already on the Mac? If that's the question, yes, there's a shareware application called iPodRip that does that very thing. There are probably others but that one has worked w...
iTunes config & Backup software for Mac
For this application the speed differences among USB-2 and the Firewire flavors aren't terribly important. The only time it will be much of a factor is the one time you back up the whole first drive to the second one and you're not going to have t...
Front ported speakers recommendation
I owned the TSM's before the Devore 8's and I'll stand by my recommendation of the Devores, especially in a small to medium space.
Front ported speakers recommendation
Another vote for the Devore Fidelity 8's. They're incredible in my smallish living room. Note that the 8's are front ported but the Super 8's are rear ported. Though they're a floorstander, they have a small footprint and take up less room than th...
Pet audiophile peeves - name yours
The term 'reference' in regard to any piece of equipment. It's one of those words used to try to impress without providing any useful information. When I was 17 my 'reference' system was an eight-track installed under the dashboard of a Ford Ranch...
How to tunr FLAC into Apple Lossless
AIFF files are 'full size.' Apple Lossless files take up about half the space of AIFF or WAV files.
Headphone suggestions
Agree about the Sennheisers, I have the 600's and find them extremely comfortable and easy to listen to for long periods.
How to tunr FLAC into Apple Lossless
If you go to the "Preferences" dialog box in iTunes (under the Edit menu), click on the 'Advanced' tab, then on the 'Importing' tab you'll see the choices for importing files. The possiblities are AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, MP3 and WAV. If you imp...

All those people who think their gear sounds better than mine.
Ripping to a Mac, any software?
My experience is the same as Sidssp's. I use iTunes for ripping and it works perfectly for me. It's easy for me to A/B the original and the copy using the switch on my DAC to flip back and forth between the original disc in my transport and the ri...
Benchmark DAC1 using Toslink input
I'm using the same glass-fiber cable that Theduke mentioned from an Airport Express to the Benchmark. It sounds very good. As is often the case, the extra money for the USB model would probably get you an improvement but whether it's worth it to y...
