I meant to include this Stereophile review of the Onkyo A-9555 in my post above.
Amp: Integrated - Used; - Sub $750 Help :-
The Rotel is a good choice, I owned the RX-1050 and thought it was very good at it's price. The Audio Refinement Complete is a great choice, if you could find one. The other amp I've owned that I think is a real bargain in that price range is the ...
Newbie's Possible Setup - Will This Work?
Since you have a Macbook a simple solution would be to get an Airport Express to connect your Macbook and DAC via Toslink, then get an iPod Touch and the free Remote application for it. That way you're controlling the music from anywhere in range ...
Newbe PC audio
I have no experience with firewire but have used USB connections between both an iMac and Macbook Pro to Peachtree Decco and NuForce Icon amps with built-in DAC's. I've never experienced dropouts in any configuration with that gear.
Ipod dock with power switch/controls on base
I've never seen a dock with those features but if you'll go to the accessories page at iLounge and click on the "Docks - Audio-Out" link you can get reviews and specs for more docks than you could image existed.
Best portable/outdoor speakers for a MP3 player
ipodlounge is a great source of reviews and recommendations for speakers and other accessories. It's iPod-centric but virtually all of the speakers accept output from any mp3 player via the headphone jack. There are two categories you might be int...
Newbe PC audio
Probably the simplest way would be to buy an Airport Express base station, connect to it from your PC (it works for PC's or Macs as a wireless access point or can be installed on your wired ethernet network.) Then connect the Airport Express and y...
I Tunes Backup
Backing up to double-layer DVD's is certainly better than having no backup but it's a fair amount of work to burn the discs, keep them organized and to restore them if you have to do that. If you're going to do it that way I'd suggest you make two...
Self bias tube integrated or power amp suggestions
The AES / Cary AE-25 amp is auto-biasing, all point-to-point wired, sounds wonderful, uses a wide range of output tubes and is within your budget. It puts out only 15 watts in triode but mine has no trouble at all with a pair of 88db speakers in a...
B&W DM 602 S3 connection question
If you want to try bi-wiring the speakers, which might actually be about the same amount of effort as making jumpers, you could buy bulk Canare 4s11 or 4s8 and try it using bare wire termination all around. The Canare is inexpensive but very good-...
B&W DM 602 S3 connection question
As Grinell says, the principal is straightforward. You connect the cables from your speaker to one or the other of the positive and negative terminal pairs on the back of your speaker, just as if you had only one pair back there. You then connect ...
Power Cord...16 ft
If you're concerned about shielding in a power cable that long, Belden 19364 is a nice option for a DIY cable, along with your connectors of choice. I've been happy with Marinco 320 and 5266 connectors. All you need to make a cable of whatever len...
feet and legs
One caution about the V-pads or similar cork-between-rubber isolation devices. They work well from an isolation point of view but the black rubber surface on them will leave a large, very permanent black mark on any wood surface they are in contac...
devore fidelity gibbon nines ,need good amplificat
I don't know if this would apply to the Nine's, as well, but when I asked John DeVore for a recommendation for an amp for the Devore 8's he suggested a Leben.
Looking 4 good lower cost pre amp $300 to $600
The AES AE-3, made by Cary, is a very nice tube preamp and within your budget.
