Can I Transfer MusicGiants HD tracks to iTunes?
I don't have any experience with Music Giants tracks but I was able to drag the high-res 24/96 WAV files from the new John Mellencamp / T-Bone Burnett DVD into iTunes without any conversion and handle them like any other tracks in playlists. An iP...
Blue Collar Cables? The great debate
You can't get any more blue collar than building them yourself. Some Mogami shielded microphone cable and Vampire or Canare RCA's, half an hour with a soldering pencil and you're in business, with a couple of burned fingertips to show off to your ...
My office setup
Jax2 is right, I should have been more thorough in my response. The sound of the analog output of the Airport Express isn't nearly as good as using the digital out to an external DAC but you shouldn't be getting anything I would describe as distor...
My office setup
The signal that's being sent from your Mac is a digital signal so it has to be converted to an analog signal somewhere along the way. The Airport Express will do it for you but it was not designed as a high-end audio component and it's much better...
My office setup
If I understand your description correctly, you're going wirelessly to an Airport Express and then using an analog stereo-mini to dual RCA cable to connect to the preamp, is that correct? If that's it, the weak link is that you're using the interna...
How are bit rates related to sample rates?
I was just about to write with the same recommendation Mozartrules made, if you're going with a completely uncompressed file. AIFF will give you the same audio quality but better long-term versatility.
Anyone know anything about Soliloquy HiFi 5.0's?
I haven't owned either the Revel or the 805's so can't compare them directly. There are several reviews of the Soliloquy online, here's one from Positive Feedback. They cost about $1,000 originally, plus the matching stands. I passed my pair on to ...
Anyone know anything about Soliloquy HiFi 5.0's?
Yes, those are great speakers at that price, great build quality and sound. Be aware, though, that the drivers are all proprietary and if one of them isn't good or fails there's no way to replace it with an identical driver.
Need basic iPod help...
I agree that for any kind of critical listening you'd want the highest quality file possible for your music server, CD quality at a minimum and even higher if you can find it. But, I listen to music in a lot of situations, planes, the gym, in the ...
Need basic iPod help...
To your question about downloading from iTunes, if your interest is in getting the best possible sound quality and you have the option of ripping the same music from a CD, yes, it's a bad idea to download from iTunes. All iTunes music is in lossy,...
New Pre or Integrated for 2nd system, thoughts?
I have owned the Onkyo A-9555 and recommend it highly. It's a beast with a huge transformer and lots of reserve power. It's better built and better sounding than any of the NAD, Cambridge or Rotel gear I've owned at anywhere near the price.
Are there any integrated amps with a built in DAC?
The Peachtree Decco that Knownothing suggested in a great piece of gear for the money. I'm using one with a Macbook Pro, streaming to an Airport Express and then through Toslink into the Decco. I can also connect the Macbook Pro durectly to the US...
NAD C715 : Linn Classik on a budget?
I've owned two NAD all-in-one units, the L-53 and L-70 and had problems with the transports in both of them. I think it's worth looking elsewhere based on my experience with those units and with NAD's very, very slow repair service.
Need advice on which speakers I should audition?
If there is a Devore Fidelity dealer anywhere near you I would highly recommend an audition. The 8's or Super 8's are remarkable speakers and don't seem to favor any particular musical genre.
Need help re Quad 909 Binding Posts
I found a picture of the back of the 909 and it does look as if all you have to do is get the plugs out of the center of the binding posts, as Geared4me suggested. I've at time had to resort to drilling a very small hole into the center of the plu...
