How many more years before cd's become passe?
How many more years before cd's become passe?Passe to whom? Audiophiles? Probably a long time. Average college and high school student? The time has come. When the time comes for you, are you going to get rid of all your CD's? I know many audiophil...
A butt-load spent in cables - how much improvemt?
Keep in mind that while some listeners can hear a big difference in cables, others can't. I wonder if those who can't don't have their systems set up correctly, with respect to speaker placement etc. Also, some systems are not fussy about cables.....
Monitor Audio Made in China?
Surprise! Many UK companies, including Monitor Audio, design their products in their own country, but have them assembled in China. This keeps prices low and UK workers out of a job. Pretty soon you will see your speakers being sold at Wal-Mart. I...
What are the treasures in your vinyl library?
One opened and one sealed copy of MoFi UHQR Alan Parsons "I Robot"
What song best describes you or your life?

Nagaoka Dust Roller...Best or Worst Thing Ever?
The film can be seen on the flat lead-out groove area near the label. My room lights are halogen spots. I also have a goose neck incandescent over the RCM. Can be seen in most bright lighting though.
I just wanted to play a record
You could always simply flip the circuit breaker to turn everything off :-) Seriously, I actually enjoy powering up the system and going through the vinyl cleaning routine. No you are not crazy - you are passionate.
Nagaoka Dust Roller...Best or Worst Thing Ever?
I have had my Nagaoka cleaner since the mid '80s and it still works perfectly - the squishy material on the roll is sorbathane. I do not use it for its intended purpose, however, because it leaves a film on the record. I use it for used records be...
will the day come when?
Whether us audophiles like it or not, downloading to a music server connected to our system is inevitable and hard copies of music will soon be looked upon as sort of archaic. Of coarse there will come a day when CD's will be almost worthless beca...
Tweak your AC mains for better performance, free
The improvement that Foster9 is experiencing is probably due to the cleaning that occurs when the switch is opened, then closed again. I do the same thing but take it further by first, opening the 200A main breaker and removing it. Then I clean th...
why are most new releases going to four sides?
Bottom line is that 45 rpm has better frequency response, but to fit all the music onto 2 sides requires a compromise in dynamic range and low bass. It should be noted that the blank side has better contact with the platter to drain away resonance...
musical fidelity tube buffer
You should note that the MF buffer has only unbalanced inputs/output and may be an issue if you are using balanced connections with the BAT preamp. I use the buffer between my Arcam CD23 and Placette active line stage (using VD Nite interconnects)...
Stiff power cords are frustrating
I use wire ties to tie the cords to the rack's back supports (both the ties and rack are black, so not noticeable much). This keeps the cords from hanging and pulling on the component that they are attached to. Also, where the cord plugs into the ...
What speakers are you guys driving your BAT's with
Dunlavy SC4a using the VK60. Preamp is Placette Active Line Stage. The VK60 works extremely well with the Dunlavys - ample power and good bass in a medium size room.
Shelter 901 with VPI JMW9 Signature
Seems we have a lot in common - I too share your love of analog and jazz female vocalists, PB is awesome! I am seriously considering getting a Scoutmaster and JWM9. I was even thinking about a Shelter cartridge (probably 501) but for now, using my...
