Cartridge for VPI Scoutmaster Sig
I asked this question awhile back and received several great responses - here is the thread:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1165589176&openmine&zzSeasoned&4&5#SeasonedI ended up using a Clearaudio Maestro Wood and...
when is a speaker considered full range?
Full range implies that the speaker can output, under suitable conditions, the full range of human hearing. According to most audiologists, human hearing extends down to about 20Hz. Looks like your speakers extend to 40Hz, so not quite full range....
Accidental improvement in performance...cheap
While tweeks to room acoustics can produce wonderful results, one must consider aesthetics, as well. Is it really worth having to stare at an ugly blown up mattress placed between your expensive speakers just because it improves the sound? I reali...
Opus 21 Exousias DB25 Power Umbilical From RSA
Thank you all so much for your responses. I was taken aback when I called Resolution Audio for their input on this matter. Their response was, "the db25 cable offered by Ridge Street would not be worth the money, after all, it just passes instruct...
"Normal" Maintenance?
Great answer and advice from Schipo. I would like to add...making sure speaker driver screws are tight and keep an eye on the foam surrounds. Capacitors in amplifiers are usually the first passive devices to go bye-bye, usually after about 20 years.
future of 2 channel CD sound
The future of high resolution 2 channel sound, for most audiophiles, will come in the form of internet downloads to a music server. And perhaps via a memory stick device that you can transfer files to that server. BTW, people here are interested i...
cable lifters, how to maximize benefit?
I would think that the Zerostat would help, but for how long? You gonna zap those cables after every disc? Once a week? Month? Then there is the new Furutech DeStat that is supposed to be even better than the Zerostat. Maybe you could use them tog...
Brag About Your Vinyl Collection
Proudly displayed in my record room is a sealed 300gm UHQR of Alan Parsons "i Robot". Even the shrink wrap is mint condition. I also have an opened copy that I play once in a while - totally stunning sound!
How isolated is your hi-fi?
My high-end system is located in a dedicated room and this room was a priority when we had our house built (my wife's priority was a large kitchen and plenty of other entertaining rooms.) It is my belief that to extract the maximum performance fro...
Do you "treat" your speakers rubber surrounds?
Absolutely...periodically I treat my woofers by playing some AC DC..."Back in Black" works best. I crank the volume up until I achieve about 1 inch cone travel. This maintenance procedure works like gang-busters to remove dust and gets those Dunla...
The Irrational But Efficacious CD Tweak
I have been using "Irrational But Efficacious" ever since Charlie Hanson introduced it and like it very much. I use track 7 about once a month - it really does work. I also use track 4 on 'repeat' to help break in a new component, cable or contact...
Which Cable Makes the Biggest Impact?
My house and associated electrical wiring are new and I have a dedicated line for the equipment with a separate dedicated line for the amp. I use a Running Springs Jaco conditioner.Guess what? The power cords still have the greatest impact on the s...
Anyone use Audiogon "Wanted" Ads Success?
The "wanted" ads are great for miscellaneous items that may be sought after, but not usually found posted. For example, I recently replaced my polycrystal rack's top shelf with a large acrylic base for my new turntable. I shoved the polycrystal sh...
Cartridge recommendations VPI Scoutmaster
I have a Superscoutmaster with JMW9 and love using Clearaudio cartridges with this set up. Currently I am using a Clearaudio Maestro with superb results. The cartridge has a healthy output, so gain is not an issue with most phono preamps set to MM...
Need advice on a headshell wieght for a JMW9 arm?
While it is true that you will only need 0.6 more grams to reach the recommended maximum 2.2 grams, your arm's counterweight will still be at it's maximum position along the arm tube. In general, it is better to have the counterweight positioned a...
