Need help understanding signal to subwoofer
If physical size is a consideration how about the REL Q201 ?I think it's about a 1 foot cube, but has all the features of the bigger RELs. I've not heard it but all who have seem to like it.
Bookshelf speakers on a bookshelf?
Ls3/5s are great little speakers. I'd add to trebleclef to avoid any speaker with an emphasized bass response, since it will be even more emphasised by shelf placement. Ideally demo as will be used.
Rock and Roll System
I too own a Les Paul and a Marshall 4x12 cabinet with Hughes&Kettner valve/solid hybrid head. It also has much more impact than my hifi, though I usually don't play my hifi too loud because of the hearing thing.Part of the problem is that rock...
buzz/hum what is going on here?
These are tube amps ... unfortunately I have no experience with tubes ... but I have heard others comment that hum can be caused by tubes ... is it easy to swap the tubes between the amps ? You might isolate a bad tube.
Are more expensive speakers better?
Are expensive cars always better ? Not if your requirement is that it have a wheel at each corner and get you where you're going to.It depends on your requirements.
Speaker ratings, how to interpret?
There is no link between the db and the ohm rating. The dB rating basically tells you how loud the speaker will sound when driven with a certain amount of power. The ohm rating, the impedance, can tell you how difficult it is for an amplifier to jam...
Best Budget Sub?
Also a used REL strata, sub $1000. If you don't like it (very unlikely) it's an easy resell, probably with little if any loss. I found a 6 month old strata3 for $800. Pretty hard to beat that.
buzz/hum what is going on here?
Does it hum at the amp or at the speaker ? If it's at the amp it's possible that as the amp warms up a parts expand mechanical tolerances change and the transformer starts to hum. You might be able to fix this, but unless it's really loud and anno...
Monitors vs Full Range
Nilthepill ... agreed. I got Spica Angelus for $500 used several years ago. Even though they're floorstanders they're definitely not full range.
Subwoofer Connection
For $849 I'd probably try for a used REL or ACI. BTW the previous poster is incorrect : REL suggests corner placement is POSSIBLE with their subs due to the very low frequency of their adjustable crossovers. However I have found optimum placement ...
Whats the best Small speaker thats cheap
I think I saw a pair of Epos M12 for sale on Audiogon ... if you're into imaging and transparency these would be a good bet. One of the most highly regarded monitors in England. I've never understood the B&W thing, I have found their cheaper s...
Monitors vs Full Range
I think Nilthepill's answer is based on price range. If you look at the monitors suggested by justlisten they are $1000 or less. Finding a full range floorstander which also has subtlety and finesse is almost impossible in this price range. Howeve...
Monitors vs Full Range
price constraints.Dollar for dollar a monitor will give better sound (midrange, imaging, transparency) (minus the bass). When finances and room space free up add a sub for the bass.I too prefer floorstanders, but I'm fortunate to have the money an...
Can someone help me please?
Epos ES12 .... great little standmounts.Ls3/5 (Spendor + others).Spica Tc50 / Tc60There are many choices of great small speakers, and many used speakers. You should be able to get great sound in your new aptmt.
What non-Linn sub would work with all-Linn setup?
HI Kirk,I use a REL strata 3 in a 10x12 room, for 2 ch music only. It is not overpowering at all ... in fact it blends perfectly, though the room size is not able to maximize the potential of the sub. (My main speakers are Spica angelus, which are...
