Perreaux 350P
Markvetnz: The older Perreaux's i've worked with all had specific tonal balances to them, regardless of the loads placed upon them i.e. speakers and / or cabling. The only time i've ever run across a cable that drastically changed the sound on the...
Unexpected tweak
As Herman pointed out, the "stinky" stuff releases an acid as it cures. If it smells strongly, it is typically not recommended for use with electronic connections. The corrosive properties of the silicone can also migrate into cable jacketing, cau...
EAD lacks power compared to Sherbourn
Are you running in XLR or RCA mode? The TG II works much better out of the XLR's. Sean>>
Completely restructuring my modest system..
Jazz is a pretty wide category. Do you like the more up-tempo experimental stuff or the smoky, sultry female singer in the lounge type? Both??? Sean>
Completely restructuring my modest system..
Since NAD gear is known for sounding warm and somewhat soft up top, the primary culprit for the brightness that you complain about would probably be your speakers. If you sold the NAD gear and went to more neutral sounding components with these sa...
loading impedance
You have to take into account the electrical characteristics of the tonearm cable and interconnects used when setting the loading characteristics inside the phono stage. As Vvrinc stated, this may take some trial and error testing to see what work...
Nasty Hack for Sub Isolation-That Works
There's nothing "nasty" about something that delivers what you need, especially if it can do it with minimal expense. Thanks for sharing your experience and results as it may help someone else out. Glad that you were able to resolve your problems ...
Anyone who repairs Apogees in Chicago?
My first guess might be John at Van L Speakerworks. John is a very down to Earth / straight-up kind of guy. If he can't do it and do it right, he'll let you know. Other than that, i wouldn't know where to point you. It is possible that Brian of Es...
"Power hungry" speakers
I started and finished that thread. Need i say more ??? : ) Sean>
Spray or brush on material for inside sheet metal?
These damping sheets from PE will accomplish what you are looking for in a very economical manner. They are more effective than using the "spray on" rubberized damping compound that you can find in some car audio and / or automotive supply houses....
"Power hungry" speakers
Muralman: Is the "Current Trends in Multi Thousand Dollar Speakers" thread the one that you were talking about? As to Greg's comments, most recordings take advantage of sizable amounts of compression, particularly rock / pop recordings. This is le...
EAD lacks power compared to Sherbourn
What impedance and sensitivity are your speakers rated at? I would agree that having to run the TG II at -20 would equate to very low sensitivity on the part of the EAD. My modified Sunfire Signatures are pretty well roaring by the time i get to -...
Is this Sony CDP still good????
One of my friends has modified several different players. They've told me that they find the older Sony units ( that are built like a tank ) to be excellent platforms for upgrades / modifications. You might want to check with the "tweaker" of your...
Impendance - Resistance & the story of "Z"
Audioengr: You've hit the nail on the head. When all your impedances match, you don't have reflections. You also get rid of ringing due to the lack of stored / decaying energy in those reflections. The differences in transparency and liquidity can...
Impendance - Resistance & the story of "Z"
I know that some of Israel Bloom's past efforts used very simple "crossovers" ( if you want to call them that ). They are the first that came to mind. This is not to say that i agree with all of the design strategies used in those products, becaus...
