Whatever happened to Ultech
Didn't know that Ultech was right up in Wheeling. Thanks for posting that Brian. Between you and i, now everyone knows all about a company that doesn't exist anymore : ) Sean>
FM radio in Chicagoland
Isellstuff: Hey, i didn't say they were perfect, i just said that they played a wider variety than most : )Aaron: I was listening to them mostly at work and in the car. My shop is SOOO close to them and they are SOOO strong out by my shop that the...
Whatever happened to Ultech
Like most other "manufacturers", Ultech based their product on the availability of a transport / laser mechanism from another manufacturer. Shortly after their big review and the rise of their commercial success, the manufacturer of the transport ...
Listening Fatigue
It is both recording and system related. Really good systems have you turning up the volume with reduced fatigue, so it's not directly related to volume. Sean>
No Audiophiles in Hollywood
The folks that make the Soprano's called up Donna at SOTA and asked if they would lend them a TT for that show. They promised them that it would be shown in the show and that it would specifically be mentioned as being a SOTA. As it turns out, Kir...
Can a transformer be replaced?
Marakanetz is probably correct i.e. other parts inside the amp would probably sustain more damage from the transformer smashing into them than the transformer itself. Depending on how severe the transformer was thrashing about, it is possible to h...
Upgrading Power Supply Caps
Liguy: It's not only a matter of response time, it's a matter of ringing. Faster diodes produce less ringing and this can be seen as a reduction in harmonic content in the power supply. In case you haven't noticed, JA has recently measured quite a...
Douglas Self on Negative feedback and distortion
Newbee: It was the original SS model i.e. the non-balanced version. Given that i'm using my Sunfire's in my HT system, and the Marsh doesn't have a processor loop, it would have been a pain to try and make it work there. I tried the Marsh with oth...
What happened to Discwasher?
"Stuff" will only grow in the bottles if they are opened and left to sit for a long period of time. Bottles that have never been opened except for their initial filling should still be fine. I'm basing this on my own experience with this product. ...
Replacing MM Cartridge suggestions phillips table
Your system, pretty much from digital source to speakers, comes across as being on the brighter i.e. quick and lean side of neutral. If one were to carry this over into your cartridge selection, i would avoid Grado's and the Shure mentioned above....
Spindle oil
Along with about a half dozen other projects i have going right now, i'm in the process of slowly setting up two different tables. While they don't mention the suitability of this product for use in turntable's, i'm probably going to try using Tuf...
What happened to Discwasher?
One of my distributors used to carry it. If you can't find it, drop me an email. Mind you, i'm not in the audio business, but if this is what you want, i'll do what i can to help you out. Sean>
Power Cord Burn-In
Thank you Mr Curl : ) Sean>
Rotel RMB vs. Sunfire Cinema Grand
Anybody that tells you that a Rotel amp is "warmer & smoother" than a Sunfire is either a bold-faced liar or speaking out of lack of experience with both product lines. The Sunfire is specifically voiced to sound slightly soft in the upper mid...
Upgrading Power Supply Caps
The caps that you have are probably still within spec on this amp given its' age and the caps used. As such, i would add more to what you already have. Given the size constraints of the amp, you might be better off going with a bank of smaller cap...
