Is there such a thing?
While what you are describing would best be suited by picking up one of the Orion's Blue Books (as previously mentioned) as it covers many, many years worth of gear from most major manufacturers, the ( now defunct ) the annual Audio Buyer's Guide ...
Signal or load required for break-in?
Aragain, i think that TVC knows that and was just "having fun" at Al's expense. As to my comment about "breaking in" gear exclusively with David Bowie tunes, "TVC 15" is the name of one of his songs. I didn't want someone else that didn't know tha...
Toobs + SS = x
I uhgree wit Dug : )I attacked the "digital problem" by simply using tubes where it mattered most: at the front end in the DAC. Problem solved. Sean>
Music you might have missed
Variety folks, it's all about variety : )Skyclad: Irrational AnthemsEven though they are one of my favorite bands with about 10 - 12 albums out, they are virtually unknown over here and their discs are VERY hard to get in America. Kind of a cross ...
Krell HTS vs Proceed AVP
While i have not tinkered with either of these units, i have been told / read in several different forums that the Krell is LOADED with "bugs" and "quirks". Some of these comments came first hand from a Krell dealer. Sean>
Signal or load required for break-in?
First of all, you need to play ALL David Bowie tunes when breaking something in.... : )If you're going to feed a signal into the amp, you will need WAY higher power resistors than what i was thinking. My suggestions were based on letting the unit ...
Signal or load required for break-in?
While i basically agree with Bob's comments / approach, i will add that internal components / circuitry WILL settle "somewhat" simply due to bias voltage and heat being present. While i would always prefer to break something in under load, just le...
Pioneer Elite PD-65 CD Modification?
There are "kits" available for this unit courtesy of G & D Transforms. Tony is the same guy that builds and sells the "Mobie" cable burner, etc... I've been told that this is a VERY workable unit with a good basic chassis and transport to star...
Please explain clipping
So many points of view .... Here's mine : )For an amplifier or "gain stage" ( any form of amplification, be it in a preamp, phono preamp, etc..) to remain "linear" or "clean", it would amplify all incoming signals equally. The input and output wav...
Short Out Plugs
You can only "shunt" inputs, NO outputs !!! As to shunting the inputs on an amp, that might be tricky. They might be wired in parallel. Shunting one set would in effect short the signal going into the other input to ground. This could either resul...
Short Out Plugs
Wow, i didn't catch that part of "Notdigital's" post. Herman is correct. The acetic acid in MOST silicone is corrosive. If you were to seal the rear section of the shunts up, you might want to seek out some non acidic silicone or apply standard si...
Any Opinions about Innersound ESL amps?
While i don't know how well it would match with the sonics of your system or personal taste, i've been told that the Sunfire amps also work quite well with E-stat's and Planars. You can usually find the "little" 300 / 600 wpc version for a pretty ...
How Do You Clean Your CD's?
I agree Craig and know where George is coming from. After running into problems with DVD rentals from Blockbuster "skipping" or being unreadable half-way through the movie, i clean ALL of them now. I told the manager at the local store that they n...
Any Opinions about Innersound ESL amps?
I remember seeing some VERY positive comments about these amps in previous Audiogon forums. I'm sure that somebody with direct experience will respond sooner than later. Out of curiosity, what about your Marsh aren't you satisfied with ? I take it...
Short Out Plugs
I almost forgot. Some preamps are not "stable" designs and may react adversely to installing "shunts" or "shorting plugs". If this is the case, using something like Cardas caps or "shield plugs" would be the next best thing. Sean>
