need help-how to build sound absorber, deffusive
Take a look at Jon's website. He's a degree'd EE, works in Pro Sound for a living and is quite well versed in acoustics. I've built a few different pieces following his instructions and they have turned out quite well. Sean>http://www.geocities...
Anyone else have a ...
The bottom line is that it makes a better electrical connection and is more reliable. This does not make it "more convenient" when something goes wrong. Sean>
Anyone made the "Bob Crump" home-made powercord?
The "Absolute" is NOT cheaper ( all things taken into consideration ) if you build it yourself. This is especially true if you stick to the basics ( IEC connector, raw cord & power plug ) without adding anything fancy. The fact that you can ma...
Speaker length vs. I/C length
Try checking out this link over at the Cable Asylum archive. I found it after doing several searches:http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/cables/messages/29011.htmlTo sum it up briefly:Jon states: keep interconnects as short as possible unless you kno...
Cable shoot-out: Second summary
I would suggest trying to keep all the cables "warmed up" if at all possible and listen to them after they've been running for some time. This means putting them temporarily into a second system, hooking them to a "burner", etc... and then compari...
Speaker length vs. I/C length
Max, i have ALWAYS promoted the longer speaker cable theory as can be evidenced by doing a search on the Cable Asylum. Jon Risch USED to promote the longer IC / shorter speaker cable ideology. I have seen him do a 180* turn on that subject though ...
Speaker length vs. I/C length
Let's look at this ONE more time using both science and logic. You pick the most correct answers and make your own decisions.1) Which signal contains the least voltage ? Speaker Level or Line Level2) Which signal contains the least current ? Speak...
Absolute Power Cords Whose heard them
A Proton power amp and a Technic's turntable? Is this system listed in the virtual systems directory? Those products alone are not much of an endorsement in terms of quality or resolution.
Best hookup for Link Dac 2 and Sony S9000ES
I would say give it a try and find out. While my way of thinking is that only ONE output from the DVD player should be seeing signal at any specific time due to loading, Sony's engineers might not see it that way. If that does not work, i would co...
Digital Interconnect?
Joe, there should be NO doubt that balanced is the ONLY way to go in a case like that. As to what brand or model to use, i'll leave that up to the folks that can afford such things... : ) Sean>
Speaker Cables?
Try doing a search in the forum archives. This subject has been covered previously on more than a few occasions. I would only add that you really DO need to pay attention to cable spec's when doing LOOOONG runs such as yours. Too much capacitance ...
Anyone made the "Bob Crump" home-made powercord?
While i haven't tried one of the DIY ( Do It Yourself ) Power cords that Bob "designed", i have tried several of his other ( TG Audio ) manufactured cords with good success. While the "DIY" cable is VERY different in design, there is no reason tha...
"Warm" CD player...on a budget.
Bradz was correct. The non 24/96 Cal DAC's sound notably warmer and smoother than the newer versions. Both can sound quite good but which one works best would be up to personal tastes and how the rest of the system is set up. Sean>
Warning: Linn tonearm anti-skate not accurate
I remember reading SOMEWHERE ( who knows where ??? ) about 15 - 20 years ago that MOST anti-skating controls were typically about .25 to .5 grams shy of being correct. With that in mind, i had always set my antiskating slightly higher than the tra...
What spkr cable should i consider???
Look into some Axon 8. It is a pretty decent cable for the money and runs about $2 per foot unterminated. Probably better than anything else that you'll find at close to the price. I would NOT wire it in the configuration that they tell you to fro...
