Difference between Forte 4 and 4A amp ?
My 3's, 4's and 6's all ran at about the same temp give or take. The 4's should have been "warmer" in theory. All of these amps idle at about 115* - 120* or so and climb slightly from there when "gettin' it". Maybe my bias is up a bit on the "A/B"...
DIY Cat 5 speaker cables....
"Splashy" treble to me is a combination of things. Lacking of detail, focus, attack & decay, harmonic overtones, air and the seperation of notes, etc... It can be "close to sibilant" in many cases. As an example, a cymbal that is cleanly and q...

AudioLab FM 8000T tuner Display light
Sounds like a loose connection that boils down to a brittle solder joint. Nothing major to take care of for someone that is handy with soldering. Sean>
DIY Cat 5 speaker cables....
Natalie, it sounds like you did the "shortcut" approach. It sounds like you basically made a "twisted pair" out of the CAT 5 twisted pairs ??? If so, that is why your amp is not running hot. Whereas your using 16 wires total, Chris' uses 54 wires....
Difference between Forte 4 and 4A amp ?
Xiekitchen, out of curiosity, what don't you like about the 3 or feel that it should be avoided ? You can lay it on the line with me... : ) As to Elizabeth's comments, all of the Forte' amps run hot and sound best after being left on all the time....
What are you doing with your tax return?
I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one feeding the poor and huddled masses with my "tax refunds".... Sean>
Difference between Forte 4 and 4A amp ?
Drew & 1953 both offered a good bit of info on these amps. As mentioned, the main differences between the 4 & 4A was that the 4A had balanced inputs. Personally, i consider the Forte' amps some of the best buys in audio. The fact that most...
Why does my MSB DAC III click?
That was very kind of you to look that up Birdieman. Kind of cool that the MSB actually has user accessible jumpers to adapt to / correct situations like that too. Sean>
What would you do??
Since you can't replace them with anything near the same price, i would opt for replacing the drivers one more time. At this point in time, i would also take whatever steps necessary to protect your investment. If this means putting up removable b...
home made silver interconnect cables
My suggestion is to orient all of the cables so that the signal flows in the same direction. While i have NO background or understanding of metalurgy, i have spoken to others that do, experimented with "break in devices" and read enough to know th...
Why does my MSB DAC III click?
This is not uncommon with some DAC's and seems to occur most frequency with units that are 24/96 capable. While some transports / CD Players output a digital signal at all times, others are switched off and on as a signal becomes present. Those th...

Most Tedius Part of Audiodom Setup/Tweak/DIY ?
Kelly ( aka Cornfed ), out of curiosity, what arm are you using ? If it is what i think it is, it is already somewhat "fiddly" to start off with. I think that i've got the same arm on one of my tables. If it is, u and me need to "hook up" via emai...
looking for a speaker with one driver.
Kasboot, has the RL-1 shown up at your house yet ? I'd be curious as to your feelings about how it works once it has settled in somewhat. I've somewhat followed the "metamorphisis" of this speaker and i can see that it has changed quite a bit sinc...
