What's Up Wth Ultimate Audio Magazine ?
Sheesh.... renewing your subscription on their own, billing your card without your permission and not acknowledging ANY inquiries from subscribers. Sounds like a downward spiral at ever increasing speeds. I would step back lest you be drawn into t...
Voltage stabilizer for big amps??
Mgx, drop me an email. I can point you to a specific product but i don't know for sure if it will work for you. VERY reasonably priced but not necessarily "audiophile" type of equipment. It may be worth checking into or at least make you aware of ...
Other great classified add sources, even Canada?
While this is not exactly part of the "Canadian / American" thread, Norbert ( formerly of AudioReview ) just started a new website. I think you'll see some similarities to the "old" AudioReview that many of us used to love ( MANY moons ago... ). S...
What is the name of your system.
Stonehenge.. hahah... i can relate.Just picked up a transport last week. The face looks like it is carved out of rock but is really Corian (sp ??? ). My girlfriend referred to it as "the CD player that the Flintstones used to own" : )Since my girl...
buying a stereo for my 16 yr. old
While you didn't state if your 16 yr old is male or female, you might want to include a subscription to AudioXpress with the system. I think that male's would find it more interesting, but you never know. It is a mag that is based on upgrades / mo...
Different sensitivity speakers in HT
There is more to sensitivity ratings than one might think. While the SPL is somewhat averaged, a speaker that remains consistent across the band but has a slight (1.5 db) rise between 1 KHz and 3 KHz will sound noticeably louder than a speaker wit...
Stranded or solid core for digital audio cable?
If you're going to be moving the cable around a LOT due to plugging / unplugging when moving equipment for various swaps, etc... the stranded gets the nod for sheer flexibility and reliability. Otherwise, i lean towards solid wire as a better perf...
Potentiometers: Ladder, Series, etc....
THANK YOU for both responses. Both were quite informative. While i would tend to agree with Tom's opinion that the Ladder design should work best ( at least in theory ), i have not ventured into this area as of yet. I've been toying with it for qu...
What internal speaker wiring to use?
Go back to using the original wiring. The speaker was probably voiced or designed with what was in it. I hope you made detailed notes as to where each wire went, the orientation of each wire, etc... I always, always, always recommend doing such wh...
What is the BEST resistor for audio use
This is a GREAT thread that i think we are all learning from. It does, however, bring up a few more questions. Since that is the case, let's start a new thread... : ) Sean>
Upgrading power cord.. proven upgrade? or crap?
Ezmerelda11, Rod presents his OPINIONS on a lot of subjects as being "facts". Simply because nobody has taken him up on some of his offers does NOT mean that he is "right" or "unchallenged" in the scientific community. There are plenty of other EE...
Define high current amp?
High current output has become nothing more than an advertising buzzword. There is NO "official" guideline or spec that says "this one is high current and this one is not". Even published specs for such things can EASILY be manipulated to make the...
New to digital mod world...help
I remember the old Kyo units i.e. Cybernet. When CD's first came out, these and the Nak and ReVox were about the only listenable ones with the Kyo being the cheapest of the three. While I'm sure that the Kyocera is of good build quality, i have to...
Panamax 1000+ Fails and cheaper unit sounds better
My Adcom ACE 515 actually sounds a little more "liquid" than some other PLC's that i have. I do know that it does not filter nearly as well though. Pops and ticks generated from other electrical equipment come right through the speakers when i use...
Is Threshold alive at all ?????
I would not let the meanderings of others that would simply be using the old company's name put you off from buying products that you want or may be interested in. There are others out there that are familiar with the older products and do offer s...
