Need Some Advice About Indoor Antennas
My experience when doing some recent FM antenna testing is that the wire dipole that comes with most FM tuners beats the pants off of most other reasonably priced antennas when mounted indoors. This includes the Magnum whip and about a half dozen ...
I need a bright detailed 300 used speaker cable
Thanks for the support and contradictions folks : ) This is kind of a funny thread. Obviously different systems and different people experience different results. Sometimes VERY different. It just goes to show that you really do need to experiment...
cd player transport/laser assembly squeak/squeals
Have you tried CAREFULLY lubricating the moving mechanisms at all ?You might also try checking to see if the unit is level or not. If it IS level, try unleveling it slightly. You might have to try slanting the unit in slightly different directions...
Best Used CD Player 1500-3000
You have a LOT of good choices at that price point in the used market. Any specific characteristics or features that you prefer or consider necessary ? That might help narrow down the suggestions a bit. Sean>
dis-similar bicables? Why not?
I wonder how much different geometries and dielectrics might affect the velocity of propagation at audio frequencies ? I know that Nordost speaks of a 94% velocity factor, but i don't know how "slow" or "fast" other cables conduct the signal. I kn...
NEW Musical Fidelity DAC
Blackie, did you try another transport or digital cable ? Is this piece a hybrid Tubed / SS design or all SS ? Upsampling ? Sean>

Sarah, by suggesting the Goertz / Alphacore cables, i assume that you found them to be bright ? Sean>
Goertz MI2 with Sim I-5
My guess is that the sound filled out with the Goertz, giving it more apparent weight and impact and apparent volume. It is possible that your amp is actually loading up slightly better, but i doubt if it would be enough to make a huge difference....
Wanna hear your soundstage walk around ???
No, there are no tone bursts on this disc. As i mentioned, this disc is worth the cost just to check out your room acoustics / speaker placement / soundstage & imaging capacities. If they gave us everything that we wanted on one disc, we'd nev...
were should best cable go - CD or Preamp?
What constitutes the "better" cable ? Does it depend on:A) what the cable is made out of ?B) the geometry of the cable design ?C) the brand that the cable is is marketed under ?D) how much the cable costs ?E) all of the above ORF) how it reacts be...
cable cooker, do they work?
Bomarc, i made logical conclusions based on the precepts of your "thesis". One could not arrive at those conclusions unless you had a reliable baseline to perform those tests with or base those statements on.I also understand EXACTLY what you are ...
Tone controls to get bass from small speakers?
Hotrod, DBX was the first on the market with that type of device. It was called a "Sub-Harmonic Synthesizer". It halved the frequency and then boosted output of that signal. While this can help out bass shy recordings or speakers, it can also EASI...
I need a bright detailed 300 used speaker cable
The AP's seem to have different effects in different systems. Some folks love the Oval 9's and some hate them. I found them very lean at the bottom end and smeared up top. The Nordost's are also somewhat lean but much more focused and cohesive sou...
were should best cable go - CD or Preamp?
There is an "art" to selecting what cable goes where. This is part of what is known as "voicing" a system. This can take a lot of trial and error and requires the availability of several different cables, but will provide far more consistent perfo...
