Ditch the internal xover and use the sub....
The lines between what one uses as a woofer and as a subwoofer are very blurred. Subwoofers are primarily designed to be used as "SUBwoofers" i.e. "below the normal range of a woofer". As such, you have to cross them over at a very low frequency a...
Acoustic Research AR18 .. anyone know of them ?
I think that these were an 8" two way of sealed design if i remember correctly. Nothing to write home about, but a very reasonable little speaker. Obviously, a design of this nature and age would lack deep bass extension. Had the typical AR sound ...
Gain matching of power amps
Herman, I bet your opinion of me is bolstered when i agree with you : ) I bet that there are a lot of others that wish i would shut up :(Honestly though, it's good that you and a few others take the time to present "details" and "formulas". It giv...
The part connection
Try checking out www.partsconnexion.com ( make note of different spelling ) and see if that will help you at all. This is a new company founded a few months ago and run by the former employees of the Parts Connection. Sean>
Gain matching of power amps
I agree with Herman. Having worked with many multi-amp set-ups, you have to do the best that you can possibly do to gain match the amps. If you don't, you'll run into some very "strange" problems in tonal balance and dynamic range that could vary ...
SOTA / FT-3 / Sonata compatability?
Wow !!! I guess Harry gave everyone ample notice that his opinion might be "biased" : ) None the less, i think he answered the question with the most thorough answer. Three cheers for "upright" dealers !!! : ) Sean>

Computer room system: Two SS mono-blocks ( 800 wpc ) driving modified Walsh drivers / SS preamp Bedroom system: Two 2 ch SS amps. These are bi-amped with each amp rated at 100 wpc. These feed two stand mounted monitors & dual subs / SS preamp ...

Experienced Opinions on Michael Green Justarak
I had a Deluxe Justarack and didn't really care for it. Someone on these forums whom i respect and i know is quite experienced with many pieces of gear purchased it from me. He really seemed to like it. In fact, he liked it enough to purchase anot...
Best all-around cartridge for 500.00 new
Tom, i recently picked up a Denon that had never been used for $100. One of my buddies found it and a few other cartridges from a vinyl "addict" overseas and snagged it for me. He had used one previously and thought it was a phenomenal bargain for...
Are you an Audiophille or a Music Lover No.2 ?
With five very different systems in the house, i could afford to live with what i have and just be "stuck" with new music. I would probably be better off that way too. I'm currently working on what i can fit into the bathroom for a small system. I...
The best place to start to reduce background fizz?
Wet cleaning a record with the proper tools can make a world of difference in terms of surface noise and "blackness" of background. Some cartridges and stylus shapes are more susceptible to groove / surface noise. Changing cartridges or making sur...
What's inside these aluminum/metal cases?
I agree with Bob about the Magnum's. I too was shocked when i took the lid off of one. It is amazing that they sound as good as they do with the parts that they use. I guess it just goes to show what a manufacturer can do with low cost "mass produ...
Best Used CD Player 1500-3000
Haven't heard some of the newer models mentioned that might be worth checking out. With that in mind and your preference for "musicality with detail", i would have to nod towards the Electrocompaniet myself. I might not have heard all of the model...
NEW Musical Fidelity DAC
If you've ever used one, how much difference was there in sound as compared to their X24K with their X-PSU ? Just curious. Thanks for the update and i'd love to hear your thoughts. Sean>
