Kimber 8TC or Alphacore Goertz MI2 Veracity?
Just to let you know and clarify where i'm coming from, i have one system with Goertz in it and another with Kimber 8TC and 4 TC in it. Both are good cables for the money but have different sonic characteristics. I only recommended the Goertz base...
Do cables age or become too old at any point?
Sugar, have you ever looked at the color of the copper in some clear jacketed "monster" type cables after a few years and compared this to brand new cable ? It is definitely darker. Some of this has to do with the type of materials used within the...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
While i basically agree, the advanced circuitry that is required to make DVD-A and SACD possible should also increase redbook resolution and sound quality at the same time. This is due to the wider bandwidth circuitry, which should result in less ...
speaker cable recommendation
Try contacting the Cable Company and see what they say. I would concur that the suggestion above for Nordost's will definitely give you a greater amount of upper mid / treble resolution. Sean>
Radio station reception
I forgot to mention something about their power rating. While they say that the amp is rated for 30 KW ( kilowatts ) of output, my experience is that commercial duty broadcast amps are VERY conservatively rated. As such, the 84% of rated power out...
Bright / forward speaker cables.
Gunbei, i know of others that have had very similar results ( very "tizzy" highs and a complete lack of "warmth" ) with the AP Oval 9's. Many of them were running single full range drivers per cabinet as i was in one of my systems. These tend to b...
Problems with Parasound AVC 1800
Have you ever tried adjusting your digital input levels ? While i don't think that this is your main problem, it might be worth a try.I too had to crank the tar out of the volume control to get good levels out of my HT system. Between that and the...
OZZIE RULES
What i find amazing is that Ozzy stumbles through common speech and the most basic of motor skills like a caveman and literally "comes to life" in terms of verbal skills and body movement when you put him on stage. It is almost like two different ...
After leaving my system on for 3 days...
Short of buying a PS Powerplant, i don't think that you'll ever be able to get optimum results out of any system in a dorm room. Between all of the computers and other gadgets tied into the electrical system of the building, you'd almost have to m...
Acoustat HT system
My suggestion is that you should go with speakers that are highly efficient, very dynamic and have full range capability when doing an HT system. This makes things MUCH easier when it comes time to picking out compatible amplifiers and also increa...
Do cables age or become too old at any point?
All copper oxidizes with age. This is pretty easy to tell though, as if it is still relatively shiny, it's still "fresh". When it is getting darker and loses brilliance, it is time to either replace or reterminate. Sean>
Kimber 8TC or Alphacore Goertz MI2 Veracity?
The Goertz MI-2 sounds fuller, warmer, more "romantic" and has a "creamier" midrange to it. Out of the two that you mentioned, i would not hesitate to say that the Goertz would be a better choice of the two going by the information that you provid...
Recycling old designs ???
Viridian, i was referring to the F as a point source simply because all of the sound references back to ONE point of origin i.e. a single driver. As to what is classified as a "point source" in terms of radiation pattern, that may be completely di...
8 gauge speaker cable
It depends on the current design that you have and the design of what you want to go to. Try doing a search in the archives regarding "8 gauge speaker cable" and you should come up with a recent thread that discussed the same basic questions. Your...
Bright / forward speaker cables.
I ran the Oval 9's for at least 500 hours and was not shy on the throttle. They did fill out and smooth a little bit, but never enough to make me change my mind about them. Just my personal opinion based on my experience within my systems though, ...
