What is the most decadent, most self indulgent--
I'd like to contribute to this thread, but i've never spent any money on a product that i didn't think was well worth it and completely usefull. I am a perfect shopper and not one that leans towards excess : ) Sean>BAH-HAHAHA....
8 Gauge Speaker Cable
Leo, there is a LOT more to consider than any one "spec" when talking about a long run of speaker cable. Here are some of the factors that i would take into consideration:wire gauge: should be as heavy as possible to minimize series resistance. Th...
Two subwoofers??
Bottom line ? I like the Bag End. Like anything else though, you have to play with the installation to get best performance from it. Sean>
What speakers for an old Nakamichi receiver
Some of the older Genesis speakers can sound amazingly good with the right equipment driving them. Obviously, this would depend on what you wanted to get out of them ( volume levels, bass extension, positioning, etc... ) and which model they were....
DVD player as the best transport to use with DAC?
If you are going to go that route, you can find a DVD player that simply outputs 24 / 96 from the digital output. While many brands are now touting 24 / 96 and even 24 / 192 operation, what comes out of their digital output may be quite different....
Change my AA front-end
Out of curiosity, what kind of pre / amp is your buddy using ? Quite honestly, i would not expect phenomenal bottom end out of any SET amp. I will add that the Millennium's are VERY solid in terms of bass extension and weight, so that may be a fac...
Amplifier Orientation?
i was completely unaware that this amp ( or ANY for that matter ) ran the outputs horizontally. Hopefully, they've done their homework and this will not turn into a problem in the long run. Sean>
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
KGB, now THAT sounds like a well rounded car and one that is probably a blast to drive, especially for the money involved : ) Sean>
Two subwoofers??
I was referring to your comment about an 8" that bottoms out at 30 Hz being a woofer rather than a subwoofer. As i mentioned, the 18" driver in the Bag End actually resonates at 70+ Hz. As you might guess, this makes it worse in "stand alone" perf...
Which Amp for uppermost freq' in tri-amped setup?
Sounds like you've got your hands full. I wish you the best in your project and hope you can make it work to your satisfaction. Active multi-amping can be tough to dial in, but it can sound SOOOO nice : )I ran a 2600 for a while with a set of Klip...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
1) 1994 Ford Tempo, 1988 Volvo 240 DL, 1988 Ford Mini-van, 1975 Corvette Stingray, 1975 Harley Ironhead2) Same as above. Who's got money for cars ??? Besides, my feet aren't pushing through the floorboards yet ( the mini-van is close though ).3) I...
Is "The Audio Critic" magazine still around?
"Objective" and Peter Aczel in the same sentence ??? Try telling that one to someone that buys ocean-front property in Kansas. Two words: Fourier Loudspeakers. Sean>
Have you tried "doping" your speaker cones?
Herman, no need to apologize. You put forth what you thought was helpful information. Luckily, someone else caught it and was able to correct it. When we are too big to make mistakes or be corrected, THEN we need to start thinking about apologizin...
Replacing internal wiring.
Sean, i recently re-wired a pair of mono-blocks. In the process, i was able to re-route the wiring for a MUCH shorter and cleaner path. As i've said before, if some of the EE's designing audio gear were doing RF gear, we'd still be using tin cans ...
Need more bass response
Not that i've ever used it as such, but one of my preamps has a special circuit just for hooking up an external processor of some sorts. It is labled "tone send" and is simply a dedicated "loop" for hooking up an equalizer, etc... The designer bui...
