How grills affect?
So Craig, you mean that Richard's grille material ISN'T acoustically transparent ? : )Removing grille's will almost always increase apparent brightness along with the potential for added sibilance. In most cases though, the speakers actually measu...
entry level power solutions
Most of the budget power cords ( at least in my experience ) won't get you too far. The best bang for the buck is going to be the Belden made Volex line. These are heavier gauge ( better for amps especially ) and offer one layer of foil shielding....
Spring cleaning / audio sales
Keep in mind that the 20% off is good ONLY on cables and headphones / headphone amps in their regular catalogue. It is not good on the items listed on their site under close-outs or hot deals, etc... The sale is on until 5/13/02. Sean>
buzzzzz, where did i go wrong?

What group do you wish would be remastered?
Jethro Tull. All of their recordings sound like junk. Then again, i can understand why. Ian Anderson thinks that CD's sound better than vinyl. Maybe if he got rid of that Fisher-Price Close-n-Play and..... Sean>
Coolest looking speaker ever ?
Bose 901 series XVII. Sean>PS... Sorry Psychic, but i had to : )
Threshold T-50 vs Forte 4 ?
$700 for a T-50 is typically well below normal used street value, let alone from a dealer. Audiogon shows the average selling price of a T-50 on the net as being $932 and i would normally expect a dealer to ask about $1100 - $1200 for this amp. I ...
Room setup vs. longer interconnects
I would not attempt that long of an interconnect run unless it was balanced. Anything else opens you up to far greater signal degradation, increased opportunity for RFI, instability of the preamp circuitry, etc... Sean>
Which speaker for "bright" room? Brand A, B orC?
Fix the room as best possible and THEN look for speakers. Anything else would be like trying to plug a gaping wound with sand. Sure, the sand will stop the bleeding due to clotting, but you've got one helluva infection to deal with not too far dow...
Removing fine scratches on tt dustcover
Like Maxgain mentioned, i've heard of folks using Novus for stuff like that. I think that Rat Shack even used to sell some of their product line way back when. Sean>
SS amps. Why so much power?
As some of you might have guessed, David and i have been going "round and round" via email. Since much of our conversation pertains to information that might clarify either or both of our positions, i am responding to one of his emails publicly. T...
Getting mold or mildew off old record jackets
Albert, great and useful post ( as usual ). Only one problem though. You'll have to refer to these tricks as just your "weapons" now instead of your "secret weapons". Going public removes the "secret" aspect of it. That is, unless we on Audiogon a...
McCormack DNA-1 biamping?
I would think that you would obtain noticeable benefits from bi-amping. However, i sincerely doubt that you could easily get into active bi-amplification due to the multiple woofers with their various crossover points. Going active and by-passing ...
Cat 5 cables, your experience
Dekay, you bring up a good point. When you start getting into DIY cables like Chris' CAT 5 design, you are not only comparing the design of that cable but the overall construction and quality of parts used. I purchased both sets of these that i ha...
entry level power solutions
Good point Kirk. Sometimes we overlook the most obvious things. I tend to like "gadgets" and the Quiet Lines will benefit any system without directly interfering with power delivery. Dorin and others that may be interested, while running dedicated...
