How to arrange my speakers?
There are MANY formulas for speaker placement, but unless they take into account the variables such as individual room acoustics, speaker radiation patterns, irregularities such as furniture, room openings, alcove's, archways, adjoining rooms, etc...
I need feedback on the McIntosh MX134
I'm not real knowledgable about Mac gear or model numbers, but the one thing that i would be concerned about would be upgradability. Since Mac gear is not cheap ( what is anymore ??? ) and HT standards keep changing, this is a legit concern. I kno...
Active crossovers
I'm using a Marchand XM9-3 Deluxe to tri-amp one system. I'm pretty pleased with it over all. The biggest drawback to this design is the lack of variable crossover points. You basically have to install very inexpensive "resistor packs" to adjust f...
New Analog system. where to start?
Gumby, the Sota is NOT finicky to set up or maintain. Once you've got it dialed in, you're home free. Like anything else, there is a small amount of basic maintenance that one does have to do to it though. That is why they chose the "hanging" susp...
Bose makes more than speakers...
Jc, i think that all of those comments were made in jest. Personally, i did not know that Bose was involved in those other areas. As such, it was enlightening to find that out. Sean>
Help, moved and very unhappy the sound of the syst
Some simple observations based on the info you provided. 1) you were used to a large percentage of highly concentrated reflected sound in your previous installation. The new installation is PROBABLY more correct in the fact that the reflections ar...
Any non-box or non-black grey amplifiers?
Ghostrider, if that was strictly the case, Bose, B&O, etc... would be out of business. Sean>
Cables "Burn In"
Gumby, i did a search on shun-meow and came up with some non-descript links to video game stuff. Can you put your last post into English for those of us that have no idea as to what you are talking about ??? Sean>
Outlet shoot out
hahah... Mike, you had me thinking for a moment. I was wondering how you had gotten rocks INSIDE your tires ??? Then it finally dawned on me as to what you were actually talking about and getting at : )Hdm, thanks for that info. I'd like to start ...
Just how obsolete are DD and DTS?
THX was basically junk to start off with and that is why the other formats arose. It was easy to improve upon a flawed medium. As such, i would not worry too much about THX and look for the best DD / DTS processor that you can snag for the money. ...
Active crossovers
If at all possible, you would want to actively tri-amp. Take into account that this is a LOT of set-up to say the least with a pretty massive amount of cabling, amplifiers and rack space taken up. It can and will change the sound of your system, p...
Musical Fidelity amp for Paradigm Studio 100
I would not consider any of the Musical Fidelity gear "warm" sounding. If anything, i would say that it is a relatively "smooth yet detailed" sound that was "quick and lean" i.e. lacking in warmth or "fullness". Others might agree or disagree. As t...
Bose makes more than speakers...
Jc, they could get away with making the sound system for the space shuttle as nobody can hear it due to all of the noise : ) Since the noise is so bad, they use one of their noise reduction helmets, so you can hear even less : ) The sound system i...
Active crossovers
Since the speakers already have their own integral crossover, you would be crossing over electrically BEFORE the amp and then again after the amp inside each speaker section. In effect, the passive crossover parts that divide the lows from the mid...
Where to buy reversed polarity AC cords?
Glen, thanks for the "kudos" but i can hardly fit my head into my hat as it is : ) It's especially hard to put my hat on during those occasions when i REALLY screw up and have my head lodged up my ass : ) Sean>
