The best way to design an audio system.
Rives, my list of "projects" is never ending. As such, i've simply been limiting myself to logging on AFTER i've made a reasonable amount of progress on something that i wanted to get accomplished. My problem, probably like many of you, is that on...
The best way to design an audio system.
You have to calculate the room dimensions, size and distance of actual listening area to be used and know the frequency and SPL range that you want to reproduce with authority. Pick speakers that are suitable for those specifics and don't over or ...
What is the deal with the ART DIO
I agree that cost means little when buying an audio product. MOST of the time, much of what you are paying for is Research & Development ( R&D ) and marketing, not the actual parts quality of the unit itself. As such, that is why some chea...
Have I finally lost my mind?
Yes Tim, you have lost your mind : )BUT, this time i think that you are probably not crazy.I have seen enough things that effect CD's that supposedly never should ( static, markering, trimming the edges, polishing / cleaning cremes, etc... ) to pr...
What to do when seller does not send item paid for
I went through something similar on two different occasions just recently. I had someone ( supposedly ) send a piece to me here in Chicago from Ohio. When they did reply to my emails, they kept insisting it had been sent out, but would not forward...
Dunlavy vs JM Lab
Scott, i agree that both product lines have a "house" or "family sound" ( as do most companies ), it's just that i find the JM's "flavour" to be far more noticeable than the Dunlavy's. I wish i could put the sound that i hear in my head with the J...
What is the deal with the ART DIO
The conditions that i listened to the Dio in placed it in just as much of a "mess" as the other DAC's being auditioned. That is, they all used the same cables, lack of optimization of the system, no isolation, coupling or damping, etc... We ran th...
Dunlavy vs JM Lab
I think that you would find the Dunlavy's "drier" sounding with the JM's sounding a little more "musical". Mind you, i think that the Dunlavy's are probably more "accurate" but what one chooses would be strictly personal preference. The JM Labs ha...
What is the deal with the ART DIO
Here's my one post for the day : )There are at least three different Integrated Circuit's ( IC's ) that various modifiers use. As such, the results from unit to unit might vary quite a bit depending on what chip was used. Obviously, some modifiers...
Love for music shatter by highend equipment
Having run into the "this disc sounds like crap so i will no longer listen to it" syndrome some time ago, i've learned to try and strike a balance between a system that is "revealing" yet still "musical". Out of all of the things i've tried to do ...
Test Record Options
4Yanx, drop me an email. I had a source for the HFNR discs but it may have dried up. I know that they had very few left when i purchased a few a while back. I'll check and let you know. Sean>
Amp Hum
This could be a lot simpler than i thought. I've run into this on other amps, including B&K. Pull the lid and check to see if the toroidal transformer is tightened down. I have seen where these were not snugged down properly at the factory and...
Impressions of the Anthem AVP 20
I think that the Anthem is a very nice piece for the money. However, i do not think that any of the preamp / processors that i've heard can compete with a good preamp when it comes down to music reproduction. Sean>
Amp Hum
Is the factory cord actually grounded i.e. a three pin connector ? If it isn't, you might have the polarity reversed on the plug or the outlet. This can introduce a hum into the amp which is then fed through the speakers. Sean>
Home theater question
Any speaker can be used for HT operation. Whether or not it is optimally suited is another question. The main obstacle in this type of situation is having immense power capabilities that one needs to drive such a load at the drop of a hat. I know ...
