Is it worth it to buy the Cable Cooker?
Well Paul, i guess when you can't hear the difference between an amp from NAD, Rotel, B&K, etc... and an amp from Threshold / Pass, Boulder, Rowland, Electron Kinetics, etc.., it wouldn't make sense to put money into cables or tweaks of ANY ty...
Speakers for Rock
I don't think that either B&W's or Thiel's are especially well suited to be called "rock & roll" speakers, especially the Thiel's.Look for something that is at least 91 - 92 dB's at the minimum, uses multiple drivers for each frequency ran...
Is it worth it to buy the Cable Cooker?
If you play with a lot of cables or have multiple systems, it is well worth it. Regardless of the "sped up" break-in time, i think that cables sound better after being cooked even if they have been in a system with hundreds upon hundreds of hours ...
Patricia Barber "Verse" released and online
She did her very first show with the new material here ( Chicago ) last Monday night at a club called The Green Mill. I got off work early to go to the show but it was already packed before i could even leave the house. I really wish i could have ...
How old is too old ?....
If you can find a way to easily replace the capacitors in the crossover network with newer models, you'll probably like your speakers even more. Not only should they sound more transparent, you'll have increased their power handling in the long ru...
What type of solder do you use and why?
Bear, i've heard rumour that Wonder Solder is a formulation that Tektronic's developed for use in their test equipment. How true this is, i don't know. Sean>
What type of solder do you use and why?
Wonder Solder works very well, flows quite easily and does not leave a lot of flux residue behind. I've have "shared" solder with several people just starting out in "DIY Land" and they have all commented how much nicer and easier the Wonder Solde...

Help with FedEx claim......What would YOU do?
Paulg805, your comments regarding fair market value are incorrect. They will pay out whatever you insured it for so long as you have some type of proof that the unit originally sold for that amount or more. I have been through this over a dozen ti...
Family cable shootout
The flat Goertz interconnects are phenomenally high in capacitance per foot. As such, i can see them being VERY system dependent and not working too well with just about any SS preamp, especially those that use integrated circuits as the main gain...
Help with FedEx claim......What would YOU do?
I agree with Dweller. If you are nearby, try going to your local court house and filing a suit in small claims court. Then forward the paperwork to Fed Ex. It is not your fault that you were charged the incorrect amount. You filled out the appropr...
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
Dave, i can see what you mean about these tables being pretty heavy. Thanks for helping me to realize that. I checked things out at Audio Advisor after reading your post and all of the VPI's there appear to be pretty stout. I'll have to ask my fri...
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
No problem Dave. I'm glad that you found something that worked for you and gave you the results that you were looking for. I had tried the Ringmat on one of my previous tables with a pivoted arm and did not like the results. As such, i have never ...
Audio as a hobby
Shubertmaniac, i've got an older Harley that i'm VERY slowly modifying / rebuilding. Also have an old Corvette Stingray that i'll probably end up rebuilding the motor on next year. Used to have 6 different "muscle cars" at one time. They ranged fr...
Antenna recomendation
Sam, i agree and disagree. I was privileged to meet a very unique individual a few years ago that designs antennas. When i firt looked at his designs, i flat out laughed and told him that i thought that they were all nothing more than "contraption...
