Shortlist of best cartridges with VPI
shelter 501 mkII. the sig arm is perfect for it. if you can deal with the long break in, you won't look back.i've also used and loved the sumiko celebration.
VPI Scoutmaster or Aries????
actually, the scoutmaster does not offer the ring clamp. the super scoutmaster does. however, the scoumaster platter can accomodate the ring clamp. but i agree that it is a great turntable. i've owned one now for over a year, and did add the ring ...
phono arm to pre cables
renowned mastering engineer steve hoffman has endorsed cables by a guy named grover huffman on his web forum. many on the forum have tried the cables, including myself, and think they're a terrific, and a bargain to boot. grover makes dedicated ph...
Phono amp recommendations
the p75 is really terrific, but frankly if you're planning on using it with a non dyna cart, i'd suggest looking at somehing else. as many others including myself have said here and other places in the past, the pe mode for the 75 is it's strength...

you may want to give the allen wright designed jtli stage a try. i just got one from jay at audio revelation, and im very impressed. using it with a scoutmaster/jmw9 signature arm/shelter 501 mkII cart. it's extremely neutral and it's really helpe...
Are some tracks impossible to track?
i have a scoutmaster/jmw9 combo. i've used a sumiko celebration and benz glider with it previously, and now im using a dynavector 20 x-l. i've had no problems tracking anything. my normal vtf is in the upper range per the suggestion of vpi, so the...
Record Cleaning Machine
if you have all kinds of dollars to spend, then the above recommendations are right on. however, i've been using a nitty gritty model that cost maybe $200 and it works beautifully. plus it has a small footprint which is important to me. a machine ...
VPI Scoutmaster - Anti-skate again..
without looking at it, that sounds about right, maybe even a bit more. i know it's not dead center.
VPI Scoutmaster - Anti-skate again..
honestly the coffee stirrer trick didn't work for me. i use my eyes and ears. i try to get the cantilver& cartridge body as squared up as possible, and then listen. i'll use both mono and stereo lp's to get my center image as focused and stabl...
VPI Scoutmaster - Anti-skate again..
if you're having image problems it could very well be you need to play with azimuth on your arm. the jmw9 is sensitive to this. for the record, my image is rock solid center, although when i haven't it's always been an azimuth problem.
cartridge ideas $200-$300.......
if you're pre can handle the low output of the dyna, and if the used one has relatively low hours on it, i'd say go for it. a very good cart, very musical. im using one a vpi scoutmaster and the dyna p75 pre and it's terrific.
Sumiko Celebration Arming
im using a celebration with the jmw9 on my scoutmaster and it's a terrific combination. vta adjustment is easy, although technically not on the fly.
Whats under your VPI Scout / Scoutmaster?
2" boos butcher block, which sits atop an ikea cabinet that holds about 1000 lp's. pretty rigid and sturdy. no problems.
