Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I just picked up an Empire 2000 body and put an after market astatic 4000dii stylus on it. I think I understand what Don is talking about when he says his 4000diii is smooth. That is the thought that came to my mind when I listened to mine. I woul...
SME 312 or SME 312S for a Technics SP10 mkII Sebastien, Sounds like your on the right track. Though I have no experience with the SME arms it makes sense to get the 312s to me. Better arm material and wiring.I have the Boston Audio mat 1 as well. It's a good mat and definitely better than th...
SME 312 or SME 312S for a Technics SP10 mkII Cdk84, I recently picked up a Micro Seiki CU-180 TT mat for my SP-10 mk2a and it made a world of difference to the noise floor of my TT. If you are still using the rubber mat I highly recommend the CU-180.
Boron Cantilever and Ruby Cantilever, Why Ruby? Tzh21y, If you just need a retip and have not broken your cantilever then Soundsmith can replace the stylus only. It cost more because it is more difficult to do. I believe it is $450. Probably still cheaper than a trade in though.
Sunfire subs I owned a TSEQ12. Before that I owned a cheap M&K sub. The Sunfire definately beat out the M&K. It was tighter and much louder. That said it leaves much to be desired compared to sota designs. IMO it is still muddy and bloated compared to ...
Coil metal for Lyra Erodion MC step-up ? The specs for your phono stage say it has 58db of gain. Plenty for a cart with .6mv output. Have you tried this combo yet?
what are your favorite movie soundtracks. I only have two. Gladiator and the Illusionist. Gladiator on 45rpm LP which sounds awesome. Illusionist on CD.
80s metal: under the radar....fave recordings I just picked up Judas Priest-British Steel on LP. It's not really a sleeper but I was surprised how good the sonics are on it.I've been trying to find Accept-Metal Heart and Balls to the Wall on LP but have had no luck yet.
Coconut-Audio tweeks Ryder, That link is hilarious. That is the dumbest looking audio product of all time. The introduction reads like a comic book. Who is he marketing this to? Rich children?
In defense of quantum products. Sabai, Sounds like I hit a nerve. If you like what they do in your system then that is all that counts.I have heard a demo of the Nordost quantum device at RMAF a few years ago. They did a A/B comparison. I thought I may have heard a difference bu...
Pop noise from turntable when power-off the unit. I have a Classic 1 and replaced the cap. It's really easy to do because VPI used wire nuts to terminate it. So you don't need to solder. I don't remember what value cap it was so ask VPI. I picked mine up from Radio Shack. After the cap change the...
In defense of quantum products. Ozzy, Why didn't he just replace it? For 2 bucks he could have avoided you finding out what find of snake oil he was using ;).It's interesting that you did not hear a difference. There are cable makers that use goop in their cables. Some don't hid...
Ortofon A90 broken stylus I also broke the cantilever on my A90. It's been sitting around doing nothing for six months. Last week I sent it in to Soundsmith. I can not afford at this time to have Ortofon rebuild it. It just seemed silly to let it sit there doing nothing. I...
Music Matters 7 - Seattle Knownothing, I'm not sure how long they have had Vienna. I think maybe about 6 months or so. Of course Magnolia HiFi used to cary them. When I heard the Vienna at Magnolia in the past the gear they had at the time was not a good match for them. Th...
I just heard the Wilson Alexandria XLF's Wednesday Johnnyb53, I agree about the Wilsons and tube gear. I also thought the Alexandria XLF sounded great with the D'Agostino amps. Maybe the new soft dome tweeter works better with SS amps than the old one.I think the Wisdom speakers give up to much pe... |
