Efficient Floorstander
Zu's are nice speakers. I would recommend speakers that have adjustable bass like the Zu Def mk4's. If you move into a smaller room you can adjust the bass so it does not over power the room. Or if you like the speakers you already have just add a...
Scraping sound
How long have you had the cartridge? The suspension may have collapsed. If so you will need to send it back to Soundsmith. Or you may just need to raise the arm up further if the suspension is ok. Is the tonearm level when playing a record? If not...

Hunting down a HUM
Try disconnecting the tonearm ground wire and see if it's better or worse.Another thing to try is floating the ground on different pieces of eq. Floating the ground on my TT power supply helped in my system.
Magnus MA-300 vs. Innersound DPR-500
Just because someone else preferred the LSA does not mean you will. The only way your gonna know is if you try out a few amps and decide for yourself. In reality you could pick any high quality amp of the right power and get good sound as long as ...
Speaker Cables for Soundlab's &/or Electrostatics
Try Sanders Sound. They make e-stats and speaker cables that are designed for them. Their speaker cables are coaxial and have low inductance and low capacitance as well. They are reasonably priced and work well in my system.
Magnus MA-300 vs. Innersound DPR-500
I am driving e-stat Innersound Kaya's with it. 500 wpc. See my system link below. My previous SS amp was a Parasound Halo A21. Good for the money but could not drive my stats as well as the DRP-500. The A21 would clip on some sharp transients on t...
Magnus MA-300 vs. Innersound DPR-500
It would be helpful to know exactly what speakers you are driving. Also how big of a room they are in. I own the DPR-500 but have not heard the Magnus. The DRP-500 should drive most speakers out there pretty well. The Magnus has less power on pape...
What reviews do you trust if any?
Hi Mrtennis, If it's something you really want to try you just have to take your chances. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you get burned. Such is life.Reviews are useful for finding out about new products to check out and hopefully give you a clue ab...
What reviews do you trust if any?
There is no substitute for using your own ears in your own system. I take everyone's opinion, no matter who they are with a grain of salt. Synergy with one's system is paramount.
When an amp puts out 90 watts....
The OP's Butler Audio amp is not a full tube design. I believe it is solid state with a tube input stage. Therefore it will not necessarily need a speaker with a flat impedance.Finsup, It sounds like you are not happy with the sound at present. Th...
What do you use to check for brightness?
My ears.
My new Soundsmith Straingauge cartridge
Spiritofmusic, I have only heard the Straingauge once at a show for a short period. Compared to the Hyperion in the same room the Straingauge's tonality was a little off to my ears. The female vocal did not sound quite right to me. I was listening...
Understanding Gain in the ARC Ref Phono 2 SE
Sounds like the gain on the ARC is either too low or too high. You could use an outboard SUT to get a more appropriate gain. Maybe try a 10x SUT with your low gain setting.Your Rowland phono stage may just have a lower noise floor in general.Which...
