Transparency and the two types of speakers
Drubin,There's a reason why we keep changing equipment. Sometimes it's not that this is 'better' than that but rather this is 'different' from that. Since even a small cable can alter the sound to considerable effect, one can only imagine the endl...
PMC IB1 and room size
Jethro, Thanks for your response. Now I know your IB1's are set up on the long wall. I knew these speakers need to be further apart from each other to create a bigger soundstage and as such, setting them along the short wall in a room of roughly 2...
PMC speakers vs B&W... has anyone compared?
PMC speakers are neutral and do not have a house sound of their own, have extended bass response and can go very loud. My only complain of them is they look a tad ugly. B&W's have a unique house sound that is easily recognizable. You would eit...
PMC IB1 and room size
Hmmm, 225 square ft. is pretty small for the IB1's but since Jethro even had a single IB1 as the center speaker I had no further comments. Jethro, out of curiosity what is the width of your room, and what are the measurements of your main speakers...
multichannel amplifier for B&W 805 S
Babbu, I would take Bryston over the Arcam anyday. Bryston amps are quite a good match with the 805S and will offer more power and grunt compared to the softer-sounding Arcam. Later you might want to add the matching SP1/2 processor and you have a...
Marantz versus Denon
I liked Denon more than the Marantz.
Dumb Quest : Amp Clips Or Speakers Blow Up First?
Thanks for all responses. Shadorne, actually what I meant by the line 'when my ears fail first' is that my ears cannot take the sound pressure anymore although I can still crank up the volume. The music is already very loud and if I turn up the vo...
Plinius SA100 MKIII/P-8 vs. Belles/McCormack SS?
I own the Plinius SA-100MkIII and it's a lovely amp. It has a tube-like character but still possess ample slam and dynamics for musical swings if needed. However, care need to be taken into consideration when it comes to matching. I find my previo...
What is the best amp for Sonus Faber Cremonas?
Old thread but missed it previously. I had similiar experience with Audphile1. In my opinion, Sonus Faber lower models(Cremona and below) have a dark character and the highs are rolled-off. My previous Grand Piano speakers sounded exactly as what ...
Bel Canto Dac 3
Kevziek,In your earlier post, you have mentioned you preferred the Benchmark DAC-1 over the Bel Canto DAC2. How would you compare the Benchmark with the Bel Canto DAC3? How do you characterize the sonics of the Bel Canto DAC3? I am leaning more to...
Best way to clean CD player lens?
I have owned the Sony XA7ES where the lens is fixed to the tray and hence it's accessible when the tray slides out. Whenever the player starts to exhibit serious skipping problems on certain CD's, I've used a dry cotton bud to clean the lens. This...
Speaker stand design - Is this a good idea?
Interesting post as this is the first of its kind I've ever read about creating a little 'fence' around the top plate of speaker stands. For what it's worth, no matter what kind of flooring, any bookshelves will be susceptible to damage if they to...

Bryston owners: What speakers are you using?
I see this is an old thread. I don't own these amps but have listened to them and have friends who own them. PMC speakers sound best driven by Bryston amps. Go to PMC or Bryston website and you would notice. I have also heard successful partnershi...
onkyo vs. Marantz A/V recievers which better?
I would choose Denon 3806 over the rest although Yamaha and Marantz are equally good. Onkyo and Harman Kardon are my least preferred out of the pack.
