Cheap thrills.
Martin-Logans are pretty easy to set up and are somewhat tolerant of position in the room.
Vinyl...should I stay, or should I go?
How big is your vinyl collection?
Tube vs. Solid State Amplifiers
As many have put it before: watts are watts. True but tube amps usually have stout power supplies, and big caps that get full power even with both channels driven. There are few lower power SS amps with big caps and excess power available to th...
You mean someone buys this stuff?
The plinth looks a little big.
Replacement for CJ MF2200
The MF2200 has a strong Conrad Johnson sound signature. I think you might want to try some amps out before you make your selection.
Restored my dads R2R but no tape loop on integrated
A tape loop IIRC is so that you can monitor while you record. If you are just playing back I think you can just go into one of the input connectors.EDIT: I see you want to record. I get confused at this point but the loop is for ease of recording ...
How much reality do you really need?
Depends. It is related to what the system is intended to do. A critical top end system, a music player, or juke box. For my critical listening, I want the full Monty. A system that covers the entire frequency range with perfect tonal balance and d...
So how can a great system solve less than great recordings
OP, if you tune your system to a very high state of tune, you can get to the point where only a handful of recordings sound good. Been there done that. The best tune in my opinion is when only a handful of recordings sound BAD. Work towards making...
Magnepan MMGs Crackle Sound
Magnepans don't usually crackle, they slap or buzz (loose wire). I did have a tube amp that didn't work with my MMGs. Just on one place on one CD, it just didn't like what was going on. I swapped amps and it went away.
Can an integrated amp be used as a power amp
Not many can, it would have to have inputs labeled "amp in".
Calling for recommendations: Speakers for a very lively room
Maggies, pretty warm sounding and they can use the rear reflective surfaces if placed right.
Magnepans and cats, do they mix?
Just depends on the cat. My wife's cat rarely comes down to my listening room and has no interest in the loudspeakers.
Speaker repair...is it easy?
IMHO, the speaker repair services are usually good and reasonably priced.
Arrangement of components on rack
My stacks are typically amps on top, to dissipate as much heat as possible, then my pre-amp in the middle, then my disc player on the bottom. That keeps my inter-connect cables as short as possible. If I have a set-up with an amp on the bottom, I'...
Bob Backert / RHB Conrad Johnson Mods?
You can toss the phono pre behind your "stuff" in most cases unless it's real big. .
