AR9LS Speakers - a good buy at $1k
If it was a nice AR LST and you can get the drivers repaired if needed I would say OK. The AR9 was not a very popular speaker in it's day and AR loudspeakers were near their end times. There are much better loudspeakers available today. The Bose 9...
Tube buffer in tape loop@
That will work but...make sure you use your preamp as the source and just don't go direct CD to buffer to tape monitor, that would put full signal to your amp. Having said that, I'm not a big fan of tube buffers, most are designed to add distortio...
Is There Any Reason To Buy A Reel-To-Reel Machine Nowadays??
"...I think so. There can only be disadvantages to putting digital on tape rather than HD or SSD..."You can put a lot of data on a tape. I think big computer systems still use tape for backup? I think?
Is There Any Reason To Buy A Reel-To-Reel Machine Nowadays??
I thought the big boys were using the RTR as a digital source? Am I wrong?
How many of you are digital only systems?
Only my front end is digital (CDs) everything else in the chain is analog.
Chained speakers signal connected in series
I didn't confirm your hook-up but it will work fine. The next question is your amps. Cannot they take the lower impedance of a parallel hookup? If they can that is better and more power.
Klipsch Epic CF4
The Klipsch forum says:Rev.3 – Summer of 1995 to end of production in 1996These models had new lighter cone woofers (new vendor) (these cones aren’t nearly as stiff as the originals and can be deformed much easier by pressing on them)Networks we...
Help Me Improve My Turntable Set-Up
"...Tekton. No, seriously..."Yes the loudspeakers are holding you back. Doesn't have to be Tekton but something bigger and more efficient.
Sound bar versus surround system
For the bedroom a sound bar is fine, I have a few Samsung systems and they sound as good as my Maggies for TV stuff.
Buying used: how old is too old?
"...I’m thinking more of the 4-5 year old speaker than the 20-30..."You are GTG in that time frame. As they get older, it depends on the materials used in the drivers. Titanium horns, GTG. Foam surrounds, not as great.
Cary SLP-98 tape out question
"...SP98 and a V12 or two, are a pretty impressive sound and a visual Lolly Pop in Jaguar red..."Same for my SLP98F1 and a pair of Six-Pacs.
Recapturing my youth
"...I think for me it's about the speakers I aspired to own as a kid..."With few exceptions, the past should be left behind.
Vinyl guy seeking recommendation for a top level cd player
"...Lasers do not stop working due to age or usage..."Lasers as a group do wear out with usage. I know I’ve bought a couple of 60000 buck lasers because the laser was timed out. I guess the lasers in CD players are long life LED lasers? Not sure b...
A somewhat but not entirely rhetorical question:
The junk can go but good tube gear is worth keeping.
Vinyl guy seeking recommendation for a top level cd player
The Cambridge 851C is a very warm and nice sounding player. I would not buy a used CD player, lasers and transport repairs are often unavailable.
