Portability of Tube Amps
If I was going to pick something to "tote around" I'd pick something lighter than a big iron tube amp. But that's me, you be you.
VPI SUPER PRiMe turntable at UPScale Audio
Maybe a recommendation from upscale. They even have a dedicated turntable expert on staff. Oh, and let them do the setup at no cost.
What tracks offer the best left right separation?
The big days of maximum separation was the hard pans used back in the mid sixties. Try Rubber Soul.
Audiogon thread issues
When having issues the first test is trying it on EDGE.
Listening room ISSUES
I had a 12X12 listening room (the only room the cats could not get to). To make a long story short, the best system I had in that room was a pair of Triangle Celius and tube amps. It was magical. It can be done.
Magnepan warm-up?
Maggies seem to just get better and better the longer you own them. Wendell says it's time and heat cycles, not playing time.
Speaker suggestions please - going to the BIG city
Your amp is going to limit your choices severely. I love my Prima Luna but it has limits. I'm thinking one of the Triangle Signature line would really be nice. They are almost ESL quick and sound great at low volumes and still have plenty of excit...
Looking for an amp that punches way about its weight and I can grow with
"...ML's and tubes sound lovely. I tried my Quicksilver Mono 60s with them and they were great; QS Mono 120's would be good..."The ML Electromotion ESLs are not that hard to drive and I have driven mine quite well with QS Mini Monos, AES six pacs,...
Krell KSA 200s power feed
Evidently the amp can draw more than 10 amps. Krell says it should have a dedicated 20 amp line. It will only need 20 amps if operating near it's limits but I would believe what Krell is suggesting.
Do I NEVER shut it off…?
I guess the real answer is to try a one hour warmup and a 24 hour warm up and see if you can hear a difference. Personally I think it's bad form to leave high power equipment turned on 24/7.
Sony's strange speaker cord
"...Speaker cords? I think my mom used to call them that..."I'm pretty sure half the guys on the AVForum are using lamp cord...so there's that.
Sony's strange speaker cord
Just a heads up. Some HT systems have equalization for the supplied loudspeakers and my not sound as good without it.
Seeking Opinion on Marantz PM5005
Well we all started somewhere but this is the very lowest rung of mass market consumer gear. Save up some more money until you can buy something worth keeping.
New Mag 3.7i vs Sonus Faber/Wilson/Mcint 2nd hand?
You have to decide if you like flat panels or not. The Maggies can do wonderful things if you can put them where they need to be placed and have the power to drive them.
SONY Power Amp question:
Yes it will run your loudspeakers but the SQ may be less than ideal (consumer grade HT receivers are not known for great SQ).
