What makes a speaker perform well at low volume?
Honest1,You are right about the volume difference in a concert hall vs. at home. I can easily whisper something to my wife at a concert, but she is always telling me to turn down the stereo because she can't talk to me.This brings up an interestin...
Wadia 861 GNSC Reference Upgrade
This might not be financially feasible for you, but I would consider getting all your upgrades done at once. You are entering a very slippery slope. I'm talking about going with the Statement and SE upgrades. Considering the cost and risk of makin...
What makes a speaker perform well at low volume?
I agree that this is not a trivial issue, and certainly not a newbie one either. I am in the camp the music sounds best within a narrow range of volume. This is most often very close or a few dbs louder than the recorded volume. I find that music ...
Power conditioner for Wadia
My experience is that the Shunyata Hydra had a positive effect on the Wadia. This is compared to 2 10 gauge-20 amp dedicated lines with Wattgate recepticles. I would describe the effect as having a more realistic and defined soundstage. Some of th...
Will Wadio ever make an SACD player?
Kublakhan,Wadia has already made another CDP. They have a new flagship model that has been around for several years. I would guess that they are deciding on whether it would be financially feasible to bring it to market. Perhaps someone with first...
Any new info re new Spectral CD player?
Wow, now there's an optimist! In a couple more years, this CDP will be too good for the market.
Mahler 5
My favorite Mahler 5 is part of a special issue set by Haitink and the Concertgebouw that was recorded over a 10 year period each Christmas day. It is a special import from the Netherlands. It is very intense, and not at all like his lame studio r...
What speaker after Thiel 7.2?
Cinematic systems, tell us how you really feel. I think this is hillarious. Yes, I agree that the Thiel 7.2 is alot like Bose except not as sexy. And I didn't realize that it also had culinary applications. You are like the Morton Downey Jr. of au...
What speaker after Thiel 7.2?
OK. So maybe I was a bit unhappy with my system. I had stopped enjoying it and did not care for the sound. I found the high frequency to be accentuated, the mids to be lacking, and the bass to be nothing special. This was frustrating, because a co...
cones under preamp
You might want to try repositioning the speakers with the cones under the preamp. I just personally learned that a tweak can alter the sound so much that you can't take your current speaker position for granted.Rob
Help with speaker cables and interconnects
I'm also interested in your question. The Valhalla has amazing detail and energy but can be a bit dry sounding. I'm wondering if previous Valhalla owners have found something that conveys the detail without the mid-range leanness. I'm a bit skepti...
Elrod Statement & Signature Conditionner?
Razen,Which CD player do you have. The Elrod Statements on my Wadia was easily the best upgrade I did. The change was addictive.Rob
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4
In '98, I auditioned well over 10 speakers in the 3-4k range, and did some traveling to accomplish this. This included Avalon and Dunlavy, which were a bit more expensive than the Thiel 2.3. At the end of the experience, the Thiel was the obvious ...
"Analog" = bloated, rolled off, soft and mushy?
If there's one thing to say about digital, it's that you can't have it all. That is why I find it ridiculous that people want to know which is the best CD player without any mention as to what they value when listening to music. What we have right...
Wadia 27ix Clock Synch w/ Transport-good thing?
Any tweak that you make to the Wadia (and I suspect any top CD player) will make a noticable improvement. Power cords, a stand, a power conditioner, and other mods can dramatically (!) increase detail and speed while giving a smoother and more eff...
