2 systems one set of speakers?????
DO NOT run two sets of speaker wires to one set of speakers...you would essentially be connecting the outputs of the two amplifiers together, which is BAD. The only safe way to do this is to have some type of switching box that isolates the two am...
Decent DVD Player
I use the original Sony DVP-S7000. It's a great player, although it DOES NOT pass a DTS signal. The later model the 7700, does. Both occasionally pop up used for less than $500. Build quality is excellent.
Good amp for Thiel 3.2's ?
I assume you mean Theil 2.3s...many folks seem to agree that Bryston amps are a great match for Theil. You can pick up a used Bryston 4B-ST (rated 250w/ch, conservatively) for $1600 or less here on the 'Gon. Lots of power and a very tight low end.
Good fit for my Audio/Home Theater situation
If you wish to use the SACD capability of your Sony 9000, you need a processor with an analog pass through...doing an extra A/D and D/A conversion doesn't make a lot of sense. Have a look at the B&K Ref 30 or Bryston SP-1. The Bryston lacks vi...
converting krell hts from 60hz to 50hz
There is no easy means to convert the frequency of your line power. Changing voltage is easy (step-up or step-down transformer), but to change frequency you need to literally "regenerate" the power. Fortunately, that's exactly what the PS Audio pr...
Multi-channel amp question????
All the amps you listed are worth a look. I used a Rotel 985 for about a year and was pretty happy with it..for around a grand new (much less here on the 'gon) it's tough to fault it. EAD seems a little more up-market than the others you listed. H...
Bryston 9B-ST or Pass Labs X5
Concur with Dbwl above about power...although the Bryston is very conservatively rated. My 9B is spec'd by the factory at 170w/ch.
Bryston 9B-ST or Pass Labs X5
No experience with the Pass Labs, but I've been using a 9B-ST for the past 2 years and am very satisfied, both for HT and for 2-ch listening. It's a great amp.
How did U get into this expensive hobby?
I was an audio gear-head from a very early age. I started out in high school with a no-name 'table, a Dynaco PAT-4 preamp, and a pair of Koss Pro-4AA headphones. A friend of my parents, a physician with lots of disposable income, loaned me a pair ...
Top Ten Speakers of All Time?
What...nobody's voting for the Bose 901? (Yes, of course I'm kidding!!!)
Do I really need a pre-amp?
Do you need one? No. However, in most cases you are better off with one. Most CD players (there are a few exceptions, mostly premium players) use relatively inexpensive OP amps for the variable output stage. You'll get better sound running the fix...
Audio Museum...what would you want?
Some great suggestions here! I, too, have owned Koss Pro-4AA, the Phase Linear 4000 preamp and Dynakits. I used to lust after JBL L-100s. Keep those posts coming....what's the one thing you've parted with that you wish you could have back for old ...
What does one do with old outdated audio equipment?
I like Alexanderj's suggestion...create a new audiophile. But here's one of my selfish "audio fantisies"...I hate to part with old gear, becuase someday when i'm fabulously wealthy, I'd like to have an audio museum of all the gear I ever owned...s...
Thiel 1.5 vs. 2.3
I used 1.5s for three years and just acquired 2.3s a few months ago. I'm very happy with the 2.3s; they offer a "taller" and somewhat deeper soundstage than the 1.5s, although not any broader. I currently drive my Thiels with a Bryston 9B-THX (rat...
110V/50Hz equipment in a 220V/60Hz country.
I just moved back to the states after 3 years in the UK. I ran all my equipment through transformers; ie, at 110v but 50 Hz...no problems. However, as a PS Audio P300 owner (which I aquired 6 months before leaving England), I highly recommend that...
