Paradigm Reference v.1 versus v.2? I was under the impression the v2 versions have shielded cabinets for home theater applications...that would explain why they are heavier, but sound essentially the same. Can anyone else shed any light?
Average age of audiophiles I'm 42 now, but have been an audiophile since age 17. Lesson to retailers: the teenager who's "just looking" today becomes the customer of tomorrow.
Equi=Tech Balanced Power vs. ? Ksales - I wouldn't put too much stock in high-end dealers lack of enthusiasm for the PS Audio units...since the P300 got rave reviews and established such a great reputation early on, and PS Audio offers them for direct sale with a 30-day return,...
Sweet DACs in HT prepro The EAD is indeed a good choice. If you want something less expensive, you can pick up an Acurus ACT-3 for less that $1K, and it's a great sounding prepro (and very simple to use). Running my Resolution Audio CD-55 direct to the power amp is a not...
Hum and the PS Audio P300 Let me add my 2 cents on the P300...I've had mine a year and couldn't part with it. It's worth mentioning that the P300 has a RF coax in/out connection on the back (which isn't even mentioned in the owner's manual) that apparently is some kind of ...
Equi=Tech Balanced Power vs. ? No experience with Equi=Tech, but one thing you should know about the PS Audio Power Plants is that they do output balanced power. I think Equi=Tech has argued in some forums that the balanced power is what works the magic, but I have to believe t...
Experience with Thiel 1.6 No experience, but I know they are at the dealers now...saw a pair in a store in the Atlanta area a few weeks ago. I'm also a 1.5 and 2.3 owner, so I'm equally curious. Unfortunately, the 1.6s I saw were not hooked up, and it was near closing time...
PS Audio Power Port vs. Hubbell/Leviton Thanks for the opinions, and especially the detailed information from albertporter...can anyone shed some light on cryo treatment?
Dahlquist evolution & Matching I bought a pair of DQ-10s back in 1979-80. At about that time, Dahlquist introduced a mod to mirror-image the drivers. Many DQ-10 owners did this themselves, as it was quite simple. A truly classic speaker!
Value of Black Widow? Keep it for your hi-fi museum...it was one heck of an arm its day (I used to own one too.)
Can a DVD player be used as cd transport? I use a Sony DVDP-S7000 and the DACs in my Acurus ACT-3. Haven't auditioned others, but the Sony 7000 and 7700 have always gotten good reviews as a transport...they are very well built. You can pick them up used for $350-500.
Opinions on a hi-end ? portable mini system If you can live without the tape player in the same box, check out the Linn Classik. It's a great piece of gear; Stereophile rated it Class B. A very elegant solution when paired with some effient monitors...I use B&W 303s.
Power cord for Linn Classik racerx90 - when I bought my Classik in England, the dealer gave me a set of adapters that allows me to use standard banana plugs on the speaker terminals. You might try contacting a Linn dealer and see if you can find a set...it opens up a lot mor...
What are you doing with your tax return? I assumed you meant the $600 tax rebate. I vowed to spend it all on CDs...and so far, I'm well on my way, exploring the Jazz genre a little more fully.
5 ch amp decision- opinions please I second sdcampbell's suggestion on the Bryston 9B. I have one in my system, and find it oustanding for movies and critical music listening. |
