What music is best for life in a tiny box?
Not sure about other DACs, but the DACmagic has both a USB input and TOSlink and coaxial digital inputs, switchable on the front panel. That at least provides the option of comparing the sound you get from a CD transport with what you get from USB...

I'm no expert on dedicated DACs...the DACMagic is my first....but Cambridge Audio claims that jitter reduction is one of it's advantages. And that might explain the big improvement I hear. What ship? It's gotta be more spacious than a sub!
What music is best for life in a tiny box?
I'm in a similar situation, but only for 5 months. I purchased a Cambridge Audio DACmagic from Audio Advisor, and paired it up with my 90's vintage Headroom Supreme amp and pair of Sennheiser HD600s. I've been very pleased with the audio quality o...
Top 5 Home Theater Processors
I wouldn't quarrel with any of those choices. But for us mere mortals, I think the Anthem AVM-50 offers a lot of bang for the buck!
Best single-malt Scotch...
The Balvenie Doublewood is indeed a very smooth whisky. But for great memories, I have to harken back to a Glenfarclas 30 yr old that I sampled on a vacation to Scotland back in December of 1999. I wanted to lick the inside of the glass!
moving to Europe, need help with converting 110/220
Things like amps (and your sub) should run fine off a step-down transformer...the 50 Hz difference is only a concern for things such as turntables that use the power line frequency as a speed reference. I ran my Velodyne HGS-12 just fine off a tra...
Overseas power outlets
Unclejeff - I plan to run the front end off my PS Audio P300, so hopefully that will solve the voltage fluctuation problem. Just want to make sure I'm getting a good connection between the P300 and the wall. Will probably run the power amp off a t...
Room treatments
Concur with Romb321...with a 12' square room, you'll have reinforcing standing waves. I'd say several good bass traps would be a good investment.
Adcom Amps & Pres
Adcom defintely offers high value for the dollar. I used a pair of GFA-555's as monoblocks (over 800 wpc into a 4 ohm load!) with Apogee Calipers for many years. If you have current-hungry loudspeakers, Adcom amps are a good bet. I've since moved ...
Anybody with Stewart FireHawk Screen?
Unless you have a very broad viewing area (ie, some people 60 degrees or more off center), I think the higher gain Firehawk is the best bet. I have an 82" fixed screen Firehawk, and have been very pleased, even with a fairly low light-output DLP.
What is Pro Logic 2?
Darryl - I stand corrected...I was thinking only of DVD. Good point.
What is Pro Logic 2?
Like Pro Logic, PLII derives the center and rear channel information from the front L and R channels. DD5.1, which has five discrete channels plus a subwoofer channel, should give better results if a disc is 5.1 encoded. However, PLII is an improv...
Moving to UK, what to do?
The PS P300 can be internally reconfigured (quite easily, I was told by PS Audio) to accept 240V and still output 120v. In fact the factory rep said this was actually preferable since the unit would be getting balanced power at the input. That way...
Need budget recommendations to complete my HT.
Concur with Elevick....an A/V reciever like the Denon 3801 would be a great start on a budget. With the B&Ws, you wouldn't need more than about 100w/channel at most. Another great reciever is the B&K AVR305, for a little more cash. I can't...
Need budget recommendations to complete my HT.
You might try and find 3 B&W DM303s to have matching speakers all around. The 303 is small enough to mount vertically on a small stand as a center channel. If you're happy with 5.1, you can probably find a good deal on one of the older Denon o...
