If you like Schubert... Sublime sums up the Schubert trios quite well. My favorite performance is by Rubinstein/Szeryng/Fournier on an early 70's RCA box set - ARL2-0731. In spite of the thin "Dyna-Flap" vinyl, the sound is superb as are the performances.
Are you Sirius? rodman -I subscribe to Sirius/XM and listen in my car. For listening to FM radio in my home system I have an inexpensive Grace internet tuner. I tune into to stations such as WDCB (Chicago) and KKJZ (Newport Beach CA) for jazz. The fidelity is ...
Static Electricity on Vinyl I used a Milty until it crapped out a couple of years ago. Then I got a good deal on a Furutech Destat II. Both do the trick, but the Milty is quicker/easier to use. In hindsight I wish I had bought another Milty.

Anyone have experience with the Tung Sol 7581a vs. EL34, KT66, KT88, 6L6 jbhiller - Where did you buy your Tung Sol tubes? I've got a PrimaLuna integrated (older model with 4 output tubes) and might just try the Tung Sols. I've tried the stock EL-34's and some Russian KT120's - but currently I'm running Gold Lion KT...
Can Vinyl LP's Survive In A Room that Gets 95 Degrees? While the conditions you describe aren't ideal, your vinyl should be fine at 95 degrees - particularly if stored vertically. Many, many years back (before I knew any better) I stored a couple of boxes of records in an un-airconditioned room in my...

Mono recordings Thanks for the tips, Frank. I've got the Brubeck, and it is a great record.
Would you sell half your vinyl collection to get great equipment ? I would - - if I got to choose which records I would trade (I've got a ton of vinyl, which includes a fair number of stinkers and mediocre items.)
Mono recordings oregonpapa wrote: "So many of these mono records have superior sound, so superior that when listening I often ask myself ... "who needs stereo?" I agree completely. When I listen to a well recorded mono LP, about a minute in I am completely into ...
Philips Vinyl: Dutch vs Italian Pressing The OP mentioned Italian pressings in connection with Philips records, and I replied that my own experience with these pressings was less than ideal. I should have mentioned that there are some Italian labels that are superbly pressed - notably ...
Mono recordings rockyboy -If I recall correctly, a true mono cartridge picks up only horizontal modulations and (unlike a stereo cart.) ignores the vertical modulations. On a 50's/early 60's pressed mono record this results in less surface noise. I've got quite... |
