Tonearm cable recommendations The Jelco standard din to rca is a fantastic cable and is quite affordable compared to the ridiculous prices others want for this type of cable.
Technics SL1200: standard overhang gauge or MintLP Curio, what type of music were you listening to when you heard the lower distortion? I found the standard Technics alignment to be the best for classical LPs where lowest distortion at the end of the LP is desirable. It is also easiest way to ge...
Affordable Turntable Options Have you made direct comparisons? Yes, except u-turn but it has a lousy tonearm. Cueing as an add-on and no antiskate. The improved version supposed to have a fixed bias another crappy idea.
Affordable Turntable Options At your price point, vintage is still the best bet. You can get a very good Technics or JVC DD for around $300. I just sold a Technics SL1401, it will outperform a Pro-ject Debut, U-turn, Rega p1 or the like in every way possible. Speed stabili...
Shure M91ED - replace cartridge or just get new stylus? The M91ED is a fine cart but you are not supposed to track it above 1.5 grams so yes at 2.25 grams it is going to sound muddy. The old stylus is worn out, you can try a Jico stylus or LPgear Vivid line.
Opinions on Quicksilver Valve Linestage Preamp Owned the QS and the 165BEE. I am going to say a QS will sound different but not necessarily better. I did not have the 6922 version, the older one was 12ax7 based if I recall and it was nice but not the smoothest upper mids/lower treble. I rep...
Vandersteen Bewoods, I have had the same opinion of Vandersteen 2ce & 3a sig for years. I owned a pair of 2ce sigs and the midrange driver just could not handle orchestral works. Gritty strings, congestion and all that, drove me crazy. Tried them with ...
Which one do I buy Pre Ject Debut III or Rega P1?? If I had to pick between the 3 you mentioned initially, I would pick Music Hall 2.2.
Which one do I buy Pre Ject Debut III or Rega P1?? Rega P1 tonearm is quite cheesy. I had a Music Hall with a 9" aluminum Project arm and it was nice though nothing special. I had a Rega P2 once and really did not care for the build quality. Arm was ok but everything else was sub-standard. Swi...
2.0 Stereo speakers on a $2000 budget? Vandersteen is a solid recommendation unless you listen to classical music. I did not like my 2CE sigs for orchestral works. There are so many great speakers out there in this price range. Check out Monitor Audio, JBL 580/590, Focals. Can't re...
Inexpensive shelf/rack for Croft/Harbeth setup. Email Chris at Timbernation. He can make a you a simple table to your desired dimensions at a very reasonable price. Not the chattiest person out there but he went above and beyond when I got a stand from him recently.
NAD C 162/ 272 or Yamaha CX2/MX 2 ?? Nad combo: Fuller, more bass. Yamaha combo: Neutral, sounds cleaner.Had both, can't say which one would be better without knowing your speakers. The 272 is not the most reliable amp either.
VPI Scout or GEM Dandy PolyTable Shinola: Wow, it's amazing how little 2500 bucks gets you these days. Just a pretty deck with no isolation, no anti-skate, no speed control. Can't even find it's weight. Am I wrong? Does this thing even have a dust cover? Personally, I would g...
Dust Off compressed air to get dust off of vinyl records Use a brush with bristles and a velvet pad. Damp the pad before use. No static.
More from VPI! I must say things are going pretty well for VPI. Not bad for a company that makes you pay extra for an anti-skate contraption. This particular model's aesthetics are not my cup of tea. Maybe for $10K it comes with platinum wire and a titanium c... |
