Anyone listen to Zu Audio's Definition Mk3?
Spiritofmusic, OT, but what $600 balanced power unit did you purchase? And did you plug your amps into this or keep them straight to the wall?
Favourite ECM Titles
$40-70 is the range. Keith can do whatever the hell he wants.

Russellrcncom, Thank you so much for the rec of Life Cycle! The LP arrived yesterday and I love it. Really special. Much appreciated. Speaking of ECM, I also just got tix for solo Kieth Jarrett on 4/4 in Chicago. First Balcony with what I hope is ...
PS Audio DLIII vs. Wyred4Sound Dac1/2
Well I haven't heard the PS, but the guys at Wyred did mods on thePS DAC and say their Wyreds are an improvement over their modded PS units
Harbeth SHL5 for Shindo Montille?
Yeah, I didn't have time to look up speaker and amp specs, but my first reaction was the same as ahendler. Maybe call Pitch Perfect or another Shindo dealer and ask them.
Anyone listen to Zu Audio's Definition Mk3?
I also think I liked the Atma/Zu combo better than Gopher, who went from the Atma to an 845 amp, that I am pretty sure provided even more tonal density. I was coming from SS amps and with the 6SN7s I used (Black Treasures, RCA, and a couple others...
What's next after Dynavector 20XL?
If you like the 20XL's character, maybe the XX-2 MkII is a good choice. Love mine (which was rebuilt by Soundsmith), but it is the only high end cart I have had. They can be found for less than the MSRP
SS amp with high tone density + great separation ?
Some of what you are looking for is done well by tubes. Maybe look into a hybrid amp? I just got a Butler 2250 that I am loving with my SP Tech Minis, but you could also take a look at the Vincent or Moscode hybrid amps. Otherwise, I think you mig...
How much can be measured -- and how much cannot?
And I will add that learning to read and understand measurements will provide a great education to an audiophile. When I compare the specs I looked at originally compared to the factors that I try to take into account now, I realize how much I hav...
Amplifier power versus maximum speaker input power
Wow Al, As usual an excellent response. Thank you very much for all of the incredible guidance that you offer here. Just ran the formulas on my recently acquired Butler 2250, which is 250W into 8 ohms. With 2V input sensitivity. Voila! Gain is 27 ...
Tube preamp recommendation ...
Hi Bob, Yes, Dodd has both active preamps and the Tube Buffer, which is passive. I'd love to hear the active Dodd someday. But I love on my Musical Fidelity kW preamp, and don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. It has slayed much competition (a...
Tube recommendation modwright LS 100 phono stage.
And do go ahead and spend for the Grade A Psvanes. Worth it.
the perfect tonearm
The Opera tonearm sold by Grant Fidelity has gotten nice reviews. Was at the top of my list until I bought an Amadeus (tonearm built in. Go golf ball!).
If you had $2000 to upgrade this system...
I agree with the above posters re: the digital front end, IF you listen a lot to digital sources. No experience on the TT or phono stage (though Black Cube has decent reviews it seems). At under $1k, maybe something like the Rega DAC, a MiniMax DA...
Tube preamp recommendation ...
Bob, It is passive in that it does not offer any voltage gain. Only volume control. In the case of passive buffers (of which the Dodd tube buffer and the FirstWatt B1 are the two best known) will also affect input and output impedances as well as ...
