Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 Keep up the crusade Gerrye! Neither eBay, nor Paypal are there to protect the consumer, but rather- to make LOTS of money. Good info, and much homework with regards to tubes are our only means of defence against this type of fraud. As I always say...
6SN7 tube GTA vrs GTB (http://home.att.net/~chimeraone/6sn7sound.html) I'm using the TungSol JAN CTL/6SN7GT bottom getter, round plate(not the mouse-ear) from the 40's as a driver and the Sylvania JAN CHS/6SN7W tall bottle(avoid the short bottle like the plague) as a p...
Cable Burn In Problem Interconnects will very greatly in their audible differences before burn-in. There's NO short-cut to the length of time it takes, because it's time/voltage that charges the dielectric. I have used a tuner/old, spare receiver (FM output via tape ou...
Lamm L2 Reference tube recommendation Mr M- A handicapped female gorilla? LOL! They delivered a package to me once, and I wasn't home: The box was 10x10x10 and the space between my storm and front door is 7". I had to repair the storm door, because they forced it closed with the box b...
How do you clean tube pins? The best stuff is Caig DeoxIT Gold, in the pen (http://store.caig.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1554/.f?sc=2&category=292) Wipe the pen tip around the pins a couple times, clean off with a rag, apply a little again and you're done. If you really want the c...
Remotes: Who needs 'em? Mr M- Sounds like you are as pragmatic as I. All that power/convenience equipment is just 'more-stuff-to-go-wrong'/'more-money-in-their-pocket', in my experience. I like to get about 150K out of my vehicles too. I've owned the same Harley for 18 y...
Lamm L2 Reference tube recommendation DHL strikes again!! I believe the have a hire-the-handicapped-gorilla corporate policy. Happy listening!
Tube preamp top clearance--McIntosh or in general If you remove the top/any covers(not the bottom plate) from the pre-amp: it'll stay cooler. I've always done that with tubed gear. Never have had a problem with tube longevity, even though my gear has always resided in an enclosed, rack type cabin...
Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 OOPS(typo)- Make that the Siemens E81CC(or ECC801S).
Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 Mr G- The Lector is one of the only CDPs that I'd consider trading in my VK-D5 for(the Linn CD12 being the other). I was wondering- What tubes are you using in your 7T? Have you tried any of the 6201's in there? You might find that digital sucks l...
Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 Well, the cat's out of the bag... (GOOD ONE- LOL!)
Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 Did realjazzcat(aka tubemuseum) rip you off too Tvad? he's the only one I've been stuck by in 5 years of tube buying there. Mr G- I would pass on those CCa's. That one weaker triode section will cost you in balance, imaging and sound stage. Genera...
Siemens CCa vs. Amperex PW 6922 Mr G- Just in case you're looking at the CCa's on eBay: There are some tubes listed there that the seller claims are 60's vintage. They aren't! They've got the shiny plates and internal date code that indicate the very bright(strident) version.
Lamm L2 Reference tube recommendation Tvad said, " he might select tubes based on availability." I'd say seven out of ten times that, and price are the primary factors in a manufacturer's choice of stock tubes.
What happened to my SET amp? If it was smoking, a fuse will NOT fix it. A shorted tube can take out a resistor, etc and you have at least done that. The smoke could also indicate an expired capacitor or(hopefully not)shorted power transformer. Don't waste a fuse. Get the amp ... |
