Which material sounds better for speakers construction? Wood, Ply or MDF?
Most materials can be made non-resonant/acoustically inert, when(as mentioned above) implementation, bracing, and thickness/layering are given proper attention.  Fiberboard also comes in a variety of densities(not just MDF).  https://en.wikipedia....

Does that occur with all sources, or just one? How frequent are these malfunctions? Can you hear the relay clicking, with no input to the amp(ie: preamp turned off or disconnected)?

Matter of fact, an intermittent/faulty thermal sensor(there are two, controlling the fan) or thermal breaker(also two), was also my first thought. Does the pilot lamp(in the power switch) blink when the amp is acts up? This is the thermal overload...

@erik_squires - That’s much harder to get away with, climbing to altitude in a crowded Cessna 182(especially, on a hot day). I’ve found, looking at the pilot, and simply saying, "DAMN!", works well though.
