Share thoughts on Keith Jarrett I think he is one of the greatest living jazz musicians on the planet. Brilliantly combining the technical aspect of playing with conveyed emotion.
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever? I like several (Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Joe Pass, John Jorgenson), but IMO Grant and Wes are by far my top two favorites. Their styles are so different, both wonderful, unless they have some sort of head-to-head contest to prove which is "best" a...
sibilence....any cures out there? Jylee - It is not that I hear no sibilance. It is that it is no longer to the degree which bothers me. My system is resolving, just not hyper so. I miss no details of the music. I also agree with Pani - I prefer well designed copper cables which i...
sibilence....any cures out there? I ended up curing my system's with less toe-in and also interconnects. For me, interconnects were very frustrating and costly to evaluate and I feel extremely lucky I ended up with ones which mate perfectly with my system. Now I can listen to Dian...
Manual vs. Auto Bias Not sure why the discussion of auto bias vs. fixed has come about since the OP is seeking info on auto vs. manual bias, where neither is fixed. Anyway, my manual bias amps also have the soft-start feature, which certainly is good to save tube life.
Where R U????? Detroit? Toledo? Atlanta? Anyone else out there?
Setting tube bias Bad tube(s)!
SS amp for Merlin VSMs? Don DCCA - Doh! Sorry for the wrong name. Thank you for correctly describing the gear you used. For everyone else, after re-reading my original thread above, I feel I need to clarify. When I stated, "... but his (supposed) results were hard to dis...
Best place to put a single subwoofer? Oops! Forgot the first step before moving it around: adjust its phase to match the mains first. Final position then adjust the volume and cross-over to best integrate with your mains. You may still need to adjust the phase again.
Best place to put a single subwoofer? Were I placing only one I would start out near middle of the room (though not exact, but off by a foot ot two) near against a side wall. Then take measurements at the seat, moving the sub up/down the wall length up to a few feet one way and the ot...
Basic Question fAbout a Preamp for Monoblock Amps Good to have two pairs of outputs: one pair for your speakers and one pair in case you end up with separate subwoofer(s). Even if today you don't have/think you'll need subs, at some point you might. Then you'll wish you had them.
AXPONA 2011 Atlanta reports/thoughts? Soundsmith's Mr. Ledermann impressed the heck out of me and deserves kudos. I stopped in his room out of curiosity even though I do not have a TT and will likely not be getting one in the near future (unless I hit the lotto, 'cause none of my rela...
Remasters-who does the best. I agree about Repertoire - very good. Another one which to me seems consistently good with rock is Legacy.
Legacy speakers and what amps? I heard the Whisper XD at AXPONA a few weekends ago. They were driven by Coda. They sounded awesome: balanced top-to-bottom, well extended, clean, clear, real, not harsh, plenty of power. Had I the means I would have snatched up the speakers and a...
Likely culprit for harshness at higher volumes? From my experience: metal dome tweeters, too much speaker toe-in, poorly engineered ICs and/or connectors, and too thin SCs. |
