Frogman, after clarification I agree with your comments completely. For me also it is not good when a musician loses focus. Once they wander into naval gazing noodlery or simply just get lost, they lose my attention completely and I'll avoid that ...

Addendum - In place of following the "tune", I do prefer jazz which at least follows a groove. I do not enjoy "free jazz", music with no structure at all, when there is nothing to follow.

one of the basic tenets ... but can one still folllow the tuneI respectfully disagree with this statement. I think it is perfectly acceptable to stretch out far beyond the tune, even to completely obliterate it, as long as one does come back to it...
It was 44 years ago that...
Will someone please explain how Sgt. Pepper "altered the direction of a music genre"? What did we get after SP that we did not have before that was directly influenced by SP? I was alive and listening to music back then, but apparently unaware of ...
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever?
And now, back to jazz ...
Do you ever doubt you ears ?
I doubt, therefore I measure. I also shave and pluck - hair on/in my ears has been growing like crabgrass on steroids while the hair on my head is falling out at an alarming rate. Aging ... oy.
Shuguang Treasure tubes....
If I get a pair of CV181-Z, while breaking them in on my preamp, do I have to: 1) be playing music into the pre?; 2) have my amps powered on? Would hate to use up tubes in my amp just to break in these on my pre if not necessary.
Manual vs. Auto Bias
My bad. I ASSuMEd auto-bias meant auto-adjusted by the amp itself, fixed-biased meant there was no adjustment knob/screw to change the bias, and manual-bias meant the adjustment could be made manually by adjusting a control knob/screw.
Piece of Audio gear you regret selling
My TT. Not because it sounded so great when I had it on my then lo-lo-lo-fi system. But because had I kept it I'd have kept all of my albums. Had I done that, today I'd get a decent TT for my now hi-fi system. Dumping my albums for the panacea of ...
What is inside a sound bar?
I've never opened one up, but by the sound (I've heard several), I'd say a bunch of crap - they all gave me a headache.

I think he is one of the greatest living jazz musicians on the planet. Brilliantly combining the technical aspect of playing with conveyed emotion.
Who was the best jazz guitarist ever?
I like several (Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Joe Pass, John Jorgenson), but IMO Grant and Wes are by far my top two favorites. Their styles are so different, both wonderful, unless they have some sort of head-to-head contest to prove which is "best" a...
sibilence....any cures out there?
Jylee - It is not that I hear no sibilance. It is that it is no longer to the degree which bothers me. My system is resolving, just not hyper so. I miss no details of the music. I also agree with Pani - I prefer well designed copper cables which i...
sibilence....any cures out there?
I ended up curing my system's with less toe-in and also interconnects. For me, interconnects were very frustrating and costly to evaluate and I feel extremely lucky I ended up with ones which mate perfectly with my system. Now I can listen to Dian...
Manual vs. Auto Bias
Not sure why the discussion of auto bias vs. fixed has come about since the OP is seeking info on auto vs. manual bias, where neither is fixed. Anyway, my manual bias amps also have the soft-start feature, which certainly is good to save tube life.
