Live Performances Gone Awry Crossed da border, eh, to see Iggy and the Stooges at the Windsor Ice Arena(?) back in '72(?). Iggy was Iggy - clad only in a silver glitter G-string, spitting on the crowd, acting a real wild child - when two members of the band started arguing w...
Best small speakers? Check out Merlin TSM and Soundsmith Monarch. Different presentations, but both sound excellent. Never heard Devore Gibbon 3XL but if it were me looking I'd check them out as well.
An interesting Digital vs. Analog experience So my point is, is it possible that some folks who prefer vinyl over CD have listened to CDs either on systems which were, in general, not optimal, or on systems whose character is biased towards playing vinyl? Just a thought.
An interesting Digital vs. Analog experience simply switching sources could case a change in the way the system sounds. If this change were negative when switching from a digital to analog source then some people might place the blame completely on the source media rather than realizing that...
What started you on your audiophile journey . Music has always been in integral part of my life. But journey into high end equipment began when my mid-fi CD player broke. I began searching for a replacement. At the same time I considered upgrading my speakers as well. I found www.axiom.com an...
Favorite poorly-recorded albums Inner Mounting Flame, Raw Power, Exile on Main Street. All terrific music, but audio quality is the worst.
An interesting Digital vs. Analog experience I've often wondered when vinyl is preferred over digital on the same system if the reason is because it was not built for digital. If a person builds and refines a system strictly for digital, then adds a TT of comparable value to their digital pl...
Are there any albums you consider perfect? Nine Horses (a David Sylvian project), "Snow Borne Sorrow". Perfect for what it is. Very well recorded. Perfect in its music and flow. And I really dig the music. (Warning: trippy, not rocking.)http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Borne-Sorrow-Nine-Horses/d...
New to the game. Need some beginners advice. RMAF is a good place to start, or some other audio show nearer to Waryan. Many big cities have audio societies. I'd also put out a feeler on all of the forums, asking if s/he could stop by to have a listen - IME people love to show off their syste...
New to the game. Need some beginners advice. Spend lots of time listening to different speaker types (sealed box, ported box, open baffle, horns, electrostats, combinations, single driver, two ways, three ways, etc.) and decide which type of sound you prefer. Drive around, fly around, do wha...
Procul H's My CD version of Salty Dog from Repertoire Records sounds terrific on my system, but I have no other version with which to compare.
How Long Ago Since You Cried Listening To Music? The other evening listening to The Guess Who "Live at the Paramount" (which by the way, newest remastered CD from "Master Tapes" is awesome sound and music). Just poured a large, cool bottle of Allagash Curieux ($12) into a beautiful Triple someth...
Acoustic Treatment on rear wall Matchstikman - Yes, one or two GIK 244s may work well for you as do for me. Good luck!
Subwoofer cables My pair of ACI Titans work well with cables from http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/subwoofer/index.htm. Well made and reasonably priced.
Acoustic Treatment on rear wall I have a wall behind me like you. I have used a couple of GIK 244 bass trap panels (2'x4'x4") on the wall directly behind my head to eliminate the bass null caused by the wall. Works very well. If you are near Atlanta you can borrow mine to try. |
