ARC SP-6C onboard phono amp vs. Schiit Mani
The phono stages in the SP6 series are still some of the best ever! I doubt that the cheap Mani can equal the SP6. I have an SP6 and would never replace it with a Shiit!
Restored Rek-O-Kut L-34 Available Locally - Any Opinions on This Table Appreciated
Definitely overpriced! An Empire 208 for less money is a better choice! I have four Empires of varying models - and two Rek-O-Kuts (rim and belt drive) in my TT collection.
I sure miss my Quad ‘57s!
The 57's in stock form are limited to 20 volts input (50 watts). More than that they will arc! Stay below that and they will be fine! Do not expect to get floor-shaking bass and window-rattling spl's out of them! They are not JBL's!
I sure miss my Quad ‘57s!
I bought my first pair of 57's back in '81. Along with a pair of Futterman H3aa OTL amps. And around that time a Bedini 25/25 class A amp. I alternated between those two amps. In 2001 I stupidly sold the Quads and the Futtermans. This I soon regre...
What, in your system, have you owned the longest?
While not the original two pairs of DCM Time Windows I had back in 1977, I am using a pair of late-production TW -1A's. Again, found on eBay in excellent condition!
What, in your system, have you owned the longest?
A few years ago I found a nice example of the earlier Ariston RD11 on eBay. This first version is virtually identical to the Linn Sondek. It has the long arm-mounting board and red power switch on the front left. Plinth is teak, while the LP12's a...
What, in your system, have you owned the longest?
Ariston RD11S bought new in 1977! Still in use! It has had a variety of arms - and cartridges - on it. In order: SME 1009IMP, JH Formula 4, Keith Monks, Lustre GST-1 and at present a Grace 707 with a Denon 103. Record mat is the Hiraoka Diskmat SE...
high output mc cartridge into vintage ARC sp-6 preamp?
Yes! I too have an SP6 (presently in storage). And two HOMC's that would work well: a Denon  and a Dynavector 20A. But I prefer using LOMC's (Denon, Ortofon, Dynavector, Supex, Coral ...) with a SUT (step-up transformer).
How do you sort your LPs?
Totally random! Last listened to on top of the pile!

Most musical stand mount loudspeakers
Back in the days of yore my friend Les claimed that his Symdex Sigma's were the best speakers ever! They were designed by Kevin Voeks.- who went on to do design work for other companies. Les previously had DQ10's. I didn't believe his claim - I pr...
The peculiarities of a high value, low cost, amp
Don't fall for the bs that only a boutique amp is worth owning/listening to! If the XLS1502 had another zero or two in its price the golden ear crowd would be praising it!
The peculiarities of a high value, low cost, amp
Sell the STA200 and get a Crown XLS1502. $439 from Crutchfield, American Musical Supply and others, with free shipping. $500+ wpc at 4 ohms! Crown has been around for 60 years and their engineering staff certainly know how to design a real-world a...
10 Audio Cable Myths and Facts
How about the claim that an oval- shaped cable sounds better than a round one (Analysis Plus)! Ditto for the claim about a rectangular shape (Transparent)! And people really believe this stuff!
