David Crosby If Only I Could Remember My Name
My copy no. 3 is lost somewhere in my large LP collection. This was the first one I bought some years ago from Good Will. A lucky find then, for sure ($1) !!!
My speaker quest
There are a pair of Wilson Sophia 3's currently listed on this site for $8950 from a seller in Michigan. Well worth the asking price - and better sound than any on your list!
David Crosby If Only I Could Remember My Name
A GREAT recording! Maybe David's best work! I have TWO copies of the LP! Sonics on it are EXCELLENT - a long-time favorite of Harry Pearson!
Teo Game-Changer IC's - get on the bus!
Nothing wrong with selling jewelry - as long as you call jewelry!
Is tonearm cable the most important cable in the system ?
Pioneer PLX1000/Denon 103R - Audioquest Silver Extreme - Denon 320 SUT (factory-stock cable) - RGR Model 4 preamp. The wire from the cartridge through the tonearm might be the most critical! So I am stuck with the factory-stock wire in the PLX's t...
phono upgrade vs replacing stylus
Try the Denon 103 into the Micro Groove into a line-stage preamp into the Music Reference tube amps. Moving-coil cartridges (like Denons - I own several) offer superior sound over Moving-magnet types - but must be setup properly! I prefer a good s...
Best looking reel to reel
Pioneer 909 - I have one, along with an Akai and a Sony! Fun to play with, but not easy to get 7 1/2 IPS recorded tapes!
Opening a can of worms
It would be great to live in a world where changing a piece of wire brought about an improvement in sound quality! Alas...
Burning/breaking in new equipment?
Transistor gear sounds best when left on 24/7. Tube gear sounds best after being on for an hour +. New speakers benefit from being used for several hours. Wire does not require a break-in period (contrary to popular misbelief). Any CD player with ...
Worked Backwards and Would like to Hear Suggestions on Speakers
Ohm Walsh's would be a GREAT upgrade over the Bose's! And NO need to add a subwoofer with them! I speak from experience, having owned a pair for 10+ years. Room-filling sound and 3-D imaging!
Sadly missed manufacturers
RGR - Robert Grodinski Research - the Model 4 preamp and Model 5 amp were contenders back in the day (1980). I still have mine!
Small Listening Room - Advice
I recommend a pair of LS3/5A's. Designed by the BBC for onsite monitoring use in vans! A venerable design - but still to this day a MAGICAL portrayal of MUSIC! Works superbly in small rooms and matches well with 25 watt amps!
Cartridge Advice Please
I recommend the Denon DL103R mc cartridge. Conical tip - not fussy about VTA! An updated version of the venerable DL103 (designed in 1962 for Japanese radio broadcast use). I have been using Denon MC's (103, 103R, 103 Gold Anniversary, 301 and 304...
What should my next upgrade be? Your best experience
Your best and biggest change would be speakers. Right now on this site for sale are a pair of Vandersteen Quatro Wood's. At about half-price they are a MAJOR bargain! The seller is asking $5390 and might take less! So check them out!
looking for the best cd transport only, without dac
I agree with mattmiller! Get a Streamer instead of a transport (any old CD or DVD player with digital output would work just fine!). A Streamer will give you much more options (like Hi-Rez and easy access to ripped CD's)!
