musical subwoofer recommendation for 2-ch I have had experience with REL and JL Audio subwoofers. Both are highly regarded here on Audiogon. My REL Storm III subwoofer was connected to the high-level speaker outputs on my power amp, but could also be connected to the line-level outputs on...
Anyone recommend a neutral tube amp? I thought my Conrad-Johnson Premier 140 was quite neutral, although as others have said, it is nearly impossible to confuse it with a solid-state amp. The 140 was replaced by LP70S and LP140M amps, so I am not sure how they sound.
worse entertainer or performer of all time?? Well, Yoko Ono, Britney Spears, and J-Lo definitely are vying for the worst. But here are mine:Worst group: Rolling Stones (also up for ugliest humans)Worst single artist: Elvis (also vying for worst actor)Never understood the attraction of these ...

Be nice to nOobs The fact that you are not receiving a response from an Audiogon member for any offer, much less a full-priced one, should not make you feel special. There are a lot of rude buyers and sellers here on the Gon just as there are everywhere. Not havin...
Moving away from tubes. Is this a good idea? It has been my experience over using tubes for the past 15 years that using small signal tubes (12AX7, 12AU7, 6922, 5751, etc) has been no problem at all. However, I have had problems with output tubes from time to time, and like you, grew tired o...
Shout out for Better Records Viridian, I agree that Tom makes it sound as if he has the market cornered on the best-sounding pressings of a title. I sometimes wonder if he is treating records in some way to enhance their sonics. It just seems strange that he finds these great...
Best stereo recievers of the 1970's? I remember learning in the 1970's that you cannot judge the sound of an amp by its power rating. I went to Circuit City or whatever stereo store and the sales guy was pushing a 30 wpc Harmon Kardon receiver over a 75 wpc Pioneer integrated amp. Th...
EFFICIENCY Jmcgrogan2 is correct on how loud the peak sound pressure levels will be with each speaker. However, another thing to consider is how each speaker will sound (i.e. tonal balance), which will vary depending on not only the voltage sensitivity but t...
Shout out for Better Records Absolutely, you can go to used record stores just like Tom does, buy a bunch of pressings of a title, go home and clean them, and listen to see if there is a "hot stamper" in the bunch. I have done just this with Heart Dreamboat Annie, some Cat St...
Angriest Lyric/Vocal How about almost anything from later Roger Waters-era Pink Floyd. If you want to hear angst, listen to Animals, The Wall, or The Final Cut.
my beautiful table isn't behaving after our move Somehow you are not getting a voltage signal from your turntable/cartridge to your preamp, or there is a problem somewhere else inside your system. Have you tried using a CD player or FM tuner or tape player or some other source to see if you get ...
Shout out for Better Records I have also had excellent experiences with Tom at Better Records. I have bought around 3 dozen hot stampers and found some great-sounding versions of many of my favorite titles, some astoundingly so. I will tell you what my BS detector has found. ...
Best matching amp for Wilson W/P6, any sudgestions I have WP7's and tried a bunch of tube and solid-state amps. I didn't like the match of low-powered tube amps with the WP7's as much as I did with my Sophias, but as other posters have said, tubes give a fuller midrange and a bigger soundstage wit... |
