A Bass Question
Even though the full 20 Hz wave will not be found in your room, you will get an air pressure wave at 20 Hz.
What's your favorite remake of a song
How about Paul Young's remake of Hall & Oates' Every Time You Go Away?
A Bass Question
Actually, MarkPhD is correct, except that in air, the speed of sound equals the wavelength times frequency. Also, even though your room will not support even one full 20 Hz wavelength, this is not the only factor in bass. Ever hear a boombox in a ...
Top Speakers for Nearfield Listening in Small Room
I am about 5 feet from each speaker and the speakers are about 6.5 feet apart measured from the insides of the speakers. I still get a full soundstage with no dropouts in the center of the soundstage. Again, thanks for the replies.
For those who buy new releases on vinyl
The Elusive Disc is also a good source for new vinyl, especially reissues.
Impressed with Tubes
My take on tube equipment is to use it where it makes sense, since tubes won't work well in every application. Certainly, the best use for tubes is in voltage amplification applications such as in preamps, input and driver stages of power amps, ph...
Top Speakers for Nearfield Listening in Small Room
Thanks for the responses so far. There are more options than I originally envisioned. There is nothing inherently wrong with my current WP7 setup. Great bass, dynamics, soundstaging, detail. Don't get me wrong, I would certainly consider monitors ...
needle problem
I am not sure from your description if either the front or back has dropped down, or whether both have, but another cause could be that the VTA (vertical tracking angle) has shifted. It could be that the VTA adjustment, if there is one, could have...
Speakers that do rock justice ...
Wilsons. Not much else out there that has their combination of bass, dynamics, and power handling. They also do a pretty good job of soundstaging and detail.
What's the story with Japanese pressings?
Some of the Japanese pressings of Jazz on such labels as Verve and Blue Note are sonically great recordings. However, those of pop recordings are mixed. I like Japanese pressings of original European recordings such as 70's progressive rock. Those...
Question re input Sensitivity and 110 db speakers
In addition to the speaker sensitivity problem, you may also find that it will amplify any noise in your system, especially that in your power amp. I would try it first to see how it works.
what cables???
I don't know if your budget allows for this but the best cables I have heard bar none, I mean another league similar to a component change, are the Intuitive Design Chimera carbon nanotube cables. There are some reviews of these here on Audiogon, ...
Sealed MOFI's on eBay
With the way that most MFSL reissues sound it is not surprising that no one opened them to listen to them. If they did they would find that the majority of them are sonically inferior to most original pressings. Like the poster above stated, the p...
What's causing the highs to be rolled-off?
Could your tubes be going bad? Did you try switching them out? Are there any other symptoms?
humming in my system
Another thing to try after going through all the procedures above is to get some wire and try grounding the chassis together in various arrangements and also to a known ground such as a screw on an AC outlet. Oftentimes your components can be at d...
