Favorite Movie Soundtrack
"Falcon and the Snowman" 1985, Pat Metheny (David Bowie on one cut). "Performance" 1970, Jack Nitzsche, Ry Cooder, Randy Newmann (Mick Jagger on one cut). Both great!
Powercord to tame brightness and add musicality
You might give a GNSC PASI unit a try. It will eliminate some glare and edge that comes out of the CDP, at least that's been my experience. Only down side, you'll need a another pair of interconnects.
Speaker/Amp Impedence Interface.......
I have to admit I know little about tube amps or their interaction with various speaker impedances. According to my understanding many tube amps prefer higher impedances, 8, 16 and sometimes more. The Speltz autoformers seem to make sense in that ...
The New Steve Hoffman Remasters Have Arrived
I have the highest respect for Steve Hoffman's abilities. Always thought the DCCs sounded better than the MFSLs. For some reason that I never understood the MFSLs seemed to garner more respect. I've read that Audio Fidelity may have a Rickie Lee J...
Best single-malt Scotch...
Sheep Dip varies with age. One year is OK but the two year old is exceptional. Good for removing rust and dried on gum also. Makes the lawn mower purr like a kitten. Cures what ails you! Plus, it won't put you in the poor house.
Difference between XRCD / XRCD2 / XRCD24?
Scagneti, excellent explanation. Thanks!
Amazing Solo Piano Recordings
I like many of the Jazz and Classical recommendations that have been listed but for something really different try Lyle Mays last solo piano outing. It's unique and interesting.
Why do intelligent people deny audio differences?
Just think how happy we would be if we thought an $89 CD player sounded great! Is ignorance bliss? I don't know the answer, but I think it's cheaper!
Aural Sym IoGel with EMM Labs/Meitner cables
The key to ioGel is to use a very small amount and only on the tip. In my experience, if used properly it does enhance the sound. I believe ioGel is now included with Optimism purchase.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Please, don't let this thread die!
Your Best Hobbies (other than Audio)
I like collecting and shooting shotguns with two barrels (two triggers a plus), especially English ones. 16 guage if possible. I have no interest in owning any other kind of firearm. I always use hearing protection so that it doesn't affect my enj...
How are the blue note RVG CD's?
Just a note: Many RVGs were recorded in his parents living room. This is not a joke.
Wadia 861 GNSC Reference Upgrade
Yes, the mods do sound significantly better. I also agree that if it is in your means, get the SE upgrade (this is a new transport mechanism) and either the Ref. or Statement mod. Definitely worth the price of admission. If you plan on doing this ...
Hi Fi burnout.
I've seen some who begin to seek perfection, the best. Unforunately perfection don't exist and anyone who thinks that it does is deluding themselves. This stuff is machinery, some better. some not so good. If you do get into this obsessive mode, w...
Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth
Hey, what's wrong with someone discovering something they've never heard before? Even if it's 20 years old or 200 for that matter. No matter who you are, there's something out there you haven't heard. I don't think it's reason to criticise someone...
