Test LP's Worth it?
I agree with Dougdeacon to get the Mint or Wally Tractor. have both for my arm. There is little to choose between them. Get a lighted magnifier to aid setup. In addition, I would a decent digital scale to measure tracking force as well as something...
PC recomendation for cd ripping
PC shouldn't affect anything. The drive might, and having scratched or dirty discs certainly will. Use something that can give accuraterip results so you can monitor results. EAC can do this, as well as DB Poweramp. Also, you might want to embed a...
32 Feet USB : sound degradation issues, what next?
Like Philjolet said. Your cables are too long. Put a powered hub halfway and you should be good.
Your top 3 worst purchases ever
Grado PH-1 phono stage. Worst sounding phono stage I have heard. Other than that, I have had good luck.
Hard Drive Question
I'll second HDTune. I like how they highlight the troublesome SMART data in yellow. You could also use Seatools, but I am always suspicious of utilities that are provided by the manufacturer.I think HD Tune works with eSATA, but I don't have time t...
Recommendation for audio rack?
Good choice. I have one, plus some extra shelves I can put in or pull out depending on my system's configuration.I also recommend buying a good level. The archetype can be a real PITA to assemble without one.
Will there be a next gen. Lyra Dorian?
Maybe a dealer will give you a trade-in on the Dorian for a new Delos. Doubt it would be more than a couple of $100 though.
Any "The Civil Wars" Fans?
I liked the one they did with Taylor Swift, but I haven't get into their other stuff. I've got Barton Hollow in my queue for a serious listen.
I want to try a different tonearm on my classic
You have to find something with the same spindle to pivot distance that fits in the VPI cutout. The spindle to pivot of the 10.5 is reported to be 250mm. The vinyl engines tonearm database reports two arms that are 250mm, the Opera Audio ST600 10....
Mint LP Best Tractor---HELP
I wonder why every discussion revolving around tonearm specs seems to relate to VPI arms? Maybe if VPI published accurate specs we wouldn't be having this discussion. This comes from a happy Scout/JMW-9 owner using the correct pivot to spindle dis...
Mint Best Tractor still in business?
What tonearm? The JMW10.5i and SE are standard protractors in his 9-Series.
The profiteers have struck Squeezebox Touch $750
Damn profiteers selling their Sansui TU-X1's and Kenwood L-02T's above their original retail prices!
suggestion for replacing Totem Arro
They haven't toppled since. I've also reduced the size of my fat arse, which has helped as well :)It might be worth the experience of trying. It's certainly less expensive and less hassle than switching speakers.I don't know if they could take a f...
VPI Scout height with tonearm attached
I should also have added that you will have to measure for cutouts in the back to clear the tonearm cable and power cable as well.
VPI Scout height with tonearm attached
It depends on the VTA setting, how much you screw in the feet and any footers under the feet. Also consider that the tonearm wire loops up and adds extra height. You'd probably be safe with 9", but I would wait until I received and set up the table.
