EASY-PEASY:  Anything Magnepan SET-UP correctly with quality electronics.  (You only hear what you enter into them, good or bad.)RE: poster who suggested horn speakers.  PLEASE listen to ANY properly set-up horn speaker next to a set of properly s...
Take up drums at age 56?
@lowrider57 I was remiss in not mentioning fingers, but a beginner has to strengthen those wrists practicing rudiments first.  You are totally correct that developed drummers require finger dexterity as well, but that seems WAY beyond a beginner's...
Take up drums at age 56?
My big brother was a drummer.  No natural talent, but he took lessons from the guy who invented some of the rudiments, and he practiced every waking moment of his life.  At 10 or 11, I forget which, he performed with a quartet of boys the same age...
Double Advent wiring question...
My point was taken incorrectly.  My point was that Henry Kloss designed the finest speaker he could in those days given what he had to work with.  It was a GREAT speaker for the times.  The issue I am raising is that technology has come a long way...
Double Advent wiring question...
Suggestion:  Please don't do this.  PLEASE go get some modern speakers from your dealer and try them.PLEASE.  That was a great idea in 1970; today, not so much.
Puzzled about reasons why there seems to be no shortage of used planner speakers
1.  Upgrades--once you own them and set them up correctly, you will HEAR that boxes do not reproduce as accurately (given the quality of your source material and components.)  Thus, upgrades as your ability to purchase increases.  (Personally, I u...
Magnepan's new LRS?
I wouldn't be too hard on your dealers. They have a tough life these days.  First, NO ONE is buying huge high-end systems like they used to and you all know that.  SO, the dealer is stuck with the same monthly expenses, and if they do not own the ...
Looking for an integrated tube amp under $2500
Used Audio Research gear might help.  They made a few of these a while ago; not sure which one was the best, but easy to find out by reading a bit.Cheers,Richard
Magnepan's new LRS?
Glad that the best speaker maker ever now has a more affordable item.  Possibly music lovers everywhere will finally realize what I found out that day in 1974 when I turned on the Tympani I-A set that just arrived at my shop and it blew all of us ...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
LISTEN to @hifidreams.  He knows what he hears, and it is all good.
Do audiophiles hate large subwoofers?
Personally, I like a pair of 5'x3'x2' cabs with 24" Hartley woofers.  They only needs about 200 RMS/each (if anyone still cares about that measurement) to run and if you brace the cab in the corners with 4"x4" wooden posts, it holds together rathe...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
Many people today like loud rock music.  Live, these songs are aided by towers of lousy speakers driven by even worse amplifiers that the move so much air the stadium shakes. People who have grown up with this thumping noise and gut-punching "musi...

I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
Just think if you GET RID OF THE BOX what you might have--a speaker that actually reproduces music!Magnepan maybe, and entry-level models are not expensive in today's market.  For the poster who "got rid of his JBL speakers," I am proud of you no ...
Vintage Speaker Choice
You are kidding, right?  Both are horrible speakers, but to each his or her own.  Get whichever one sounds "good" to you, I guess.Want some decent vintage box speakers?Try Fulton 80 or 100 for less money and actually some semblance of accuracy of ...
