Have you ever wondered why speaker manufactures do not consign speakers to dealers? As a former store owner, I have a lot to say on this but am too busy to comment now. Suffice it to say that manufacturers set dealer allotments based on many variables. As for the HD story above, this is why HD and Walmart and others have ruined e...
Whats on your turntable tonight? I got tired of listening to all the debate over what system element is degrading the sound, so I got rid of my system and just hired a band to play all the music I want to hear. This way, I can yell at the musician directly instead of some audio ...
Heard Maggie 3.7i with.. @scorpio1951 That's easy. In my shop we had the enjoyment of trading in very early Mc stuff and ordering and playing new Mc stuff--1970's. Build quality was good--many new ones required return to the factory for service soon after putting into ...
seeking vintage audio info STOP! If you like the system and it plays the music you like, keep it and enjoy it. If the TT issue bothers you, it can probably be repaired easily. DUAL TT were not complicated products. As for the others on here:IF YOU DON'T OWN AND DRIVE EITH...
Nature of the current used speaker market @d2girls: A bit of reality and perspective on the "fat margins" you think dealers make.No. Evidently you have never seen the price sheets that come with the "exclusive" brands you wish to carry and the T's & C's that come with these brands. H...
A very good ENGINEERING explanation of why analog can not be as good as digital.. Science to the rescue. Forget your ears, listen to the CODEC, which, by definition, SUBTRACTS bits and then "tries" to put them back in.Better yet, listen to a "digital" B-3 and/or "electronic" drums and then the originals. Different, but which ...

Where do cables upgrades have the most impact? To answer your question, mostly on your wallet.
Skeptic or just plain hard headed You guys and your cables are hysterical. Thanks so much for the laugh--I needed it this AM.
Need a Record Brush. Got a recommendation? Still using my Discwasher from 1970's. Seems to work fine on direct-to-disc records as well as all others. Not sure that is fair as my records and turntable setup haven't changed much since then either.Cheers!
If you could just pick one instrument that you think sounds best on your speakers Maggies: Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldar
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far? Where to start? I have ticket stubs from James Brown in the 200-seat Y-Court building at college (UNC): $2.00--1965??First concert, PP&M, 1962, Norfolk Auditorium, I think. Next was either the Rolling Stones or Ray Charles--got to look at the ...

What albums, in your opinion, sound unquestionably better on Vinyl rather than Digital? Like others have posted, ALL OF THEM. When you use algorithms to remove every x bit from the stream to save time and space, you prevent the entire recording from being recoreded and played back, even if the codec is supposed to "replace" those bi...
which Audio Research pre-amp? @bdp24 is correct: LISTEN to both in your system at home and then make a decision. What YOU like has no bearing on what others think or say or post.As a former dealer, I am always amazed at people who do not wish to make their own decisions about... |
