Best CD I've heard so far 2011......... Ok...on more I forgot! The Low Anthem "Smart Flesh". Can't see why so many critics ripped this. I really love it. Great mood and passion. Pretty darn similar to "Oh My God, Charles Darwin" if you like the first.I'm overwhelmed by all the great mus...
Best CD I've heard so far 2011......... Jax...Emily Barker + the Red Clay Halo have a 2011 release titled "Almanac" which I actually prefer to that one. Good stuff. Agree with the Martha Tilson recommendation. "Of Milkmaids and Architects" from 2006 being my personal fave. Of all the Nu...
Best CD I've heard so far 2011......... I have a bunch to list but for now I'll throw out The Unthanks "Last", keeping in line with the twangy folk girls listed above, this one with Celtic roots. Jax you'll dig that one!
Amps for Maxx 2's Agree with Owl regarding the need for lots of power. They will sound good with moderate power but stellar with big power. I drive mine with a Krell FPB 600c and plan a move to Spectral DMA 360's this year.
Krell Amps/preamp listeing levels -- room size Good stuff in this thread. Long time FPB 600c owner and I've been contemplating an amp change for a bit now. It just seems like every time I find something I think could be a good fit I come home and warm up the big Krell and it just sings. I just...
CDs with heavy, fast bass and/or long drum solos James Blake new self titled album has the lowest bass I have yet to hear in my system. BE CAREFUL! Great album too. Sort of a blend of piano singer songwriter and dubstep electonica.
JVC XRCDs -- your experience? Forgot a real favorite...The Kerry Dancers (1962) by Johnny Griffin Quartet (XRCD)
JVC XRCDs -- your experience? I have many XRCD's and they are significantly better than standard masters, much closer to and some equal to 24/96 sound quality. Some favorites in my catalog:Boss Tenor [XRCD] (1960) by Gene AmmonsCookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet (XRCD) (1956)...
ATI 2005 or Emotiva EPA-5 I've been using an XPA-5 in a second 5.1 system we have with NHT speakers. It really has exceeded my expectations. I could not see using it in my reference system but it has way more than enough power for any theater application I could think of. ...
Synth/Electronic LP recommendations A name you would not normally associate with Electonica, Sufjan Stevens, also has some interesting electronic music in his catalog. "Enjoy Your Rabbit" is an early one and his latest, "The Age Of Adz" is very much in the genre.
Synth/Electronic LP recommendations If you'd like a very different example of electronic music which is on the quiet and haunting side check out James Blake self titled. Sort of a dubstep Bon Iver sound.
Twilight Singers "Dynamite Steps" Spiritualized....Figured you'd be interested in this one and will likely be at the LA show if I remember right. They just did a free show at a record shop out there. I will be at the NYC show 5/13 which should be interesting. Great record. The son...
