Amplifier is now off the Power Conditioner
You need a Shunyata Triton. Every one of my amps sounds better connected to the Triton versus the wall outlet.
REL Gibralter G2 a good choice?
There are plenty of other choices that offer better performance and integration for less money. Two smaller subs would be better than one big one.
Which REL subs for ProAc One SCs?
River251, I recall you being located in Phx. Check with AZ Hi Fi re the Gallo subs. More flexible in setup than Rel and deliver a sound that isn't designed as "bottom up".
Budget $3000-3500 new or used
Viewing current listings, the ones that would be tube amp friendly and full range are: Alon/nola V mk3 for 2200.00, Silverline Sonata 2 for 2000.00 and Coincident Super Eclipse 3 for 3000.00.Would you consider buying used, unseen and unheard? Thos...
Pre-Amp for Class D Amp
Any quality tube preamp would be an improvement. I like VAC and Manley but that doesn't mean you have to. There are lots of single ended choices, but if you want true balanced the heard thins down.
Do Jumpers make an audible difference?
Audible difference? Yes for sure, but not necessarily better. There's no substitute for experimentation. Before spending big bucks, buy some different wire and make some sets to try out.
End of an era: Genesis 500 servo amp died
Buying speakers is a pain. They need to match your taste in music, then they need to be compatable with the electronics driving them, and finally the match with your room. You seem to be very comfortable with your current setup prior to the amp fa...
Best Subwoofer for Quad 2805 under $5k
My recommendation would be a pair of Anthony Gallo TR1D subs. They are small and unobtrusive sealed cylindrical encloseure with a 10" woofer and a 200 watt amp. They are simple to integrate and do not produce ponderous bass. I use them with ESP sp...
Revel F208s vs Cremona M vs B&W 803/804 D
Your room is plenty big for a used pair of N802's or new 803D. The 804D are too small.
Condition of speakers
I would agree a "mint" 10/10 rating speaker should be perfect on all sides. I guess it must just be a personal thing to have an unmarred bottom. I could care less as long as the remaining sides are presentable.
Do you run a high end power cord on your sub?
Yes, funny but the power cords cost more than the subs. Each sub also has its own dedicated line as well. I preferred the stock cords to Pangea AC14Se. The Nordost Brahma's are a definite improvement over either.
Audio Research pre-amps?
Why the love affair with ARC for a preamp? The two I've had in my system, LS15 and SP16 were very lean. I could not believe how much bass was missing. A Manley preamp absolutely killed either ARC.
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
An important missing bit of info is your current system, and what facets of reproduction you wish to improve upon.A hi end system will generally produce more of the ambience of the recording and will likely be more accurate in frequency balance. P...
Subwoofer connectivity question
I use a pair of Gallo TR1D subs, and run my bi-wired main speakers full range. The subs are connected speaker level with a short piece of speaker cable from the low frequency terminals of the speakers to the subwoofer inputs. The subs are position...
"Slam"--what is it, is it really accurate?
I agree with Martykl. My experience coincides with his. I do feel slam is a real part of some live music. I like a system that can give a credible rendition of slam.An example would be really hearing the "kick" in the kick drum.
