Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
Anyone remember an M.S. Brassfield mod of a Phillips (CDB-465 & other models?) from 1987? ACI (the Jaguar speaker folks, in Wisconsin I believe) distributed it. I had one then & really enjoyed it at the time.
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?

Mating power cords with APL 3910
Not to belabor things here, but just to complete my thoughts for those reading this thread, I found that using a 20-amp Shunyata Anaconda Alpha from the wall (plain old 15 amp non-dedicated line) to the Hydra 8, and another Anaconda Alpha from the...
Mating power cords with APL 3910
Yep, I have to go along with Sean, since his analysis has proven right to my ears. For the record, my Edge NL-12 amp is much smoother & warmer (but still conveys all the details & dynamics) through the Hydra 8. I have all my source compone...
Mating power cords with APL 3910
As per Sean's description of the Hydra 8's architecture, a while ago I posted my opinion that the analog outlets sounded better (tighter bass, more relaxed & integrated sound field) for all components, digital ones included. The analog ones ar...
Review: Merlin Music Systems VSM-MX Speaker
Thanks for the comprehensive response! The un-veiled sound you described is exactly as I remember the Stages. I enjoyed your well written review, too. One thing I noticed about the Apogees is that they performed very well even with very modest equi...
Review: Merlin Music Systems VSM-MX Speaker
I noticed you owned Apogees, & I think the Stages I once owned had a live & natural vocal reproduction that was absoultely remarkable & (to my ears & experience) has never been equaled. How do the Merlins compare?

Correction: I have an Accuphase DP75V, not a DP75.
help me settle on a source...
I have the 650/Zu Mobius phones & really love myAccuphase DP75 with them--tight, well-integrated bass, smooth, non-grainy highs, mids with good substance & decent air. I highly recommend it. The setup is extremely non-fatiguing. Everytime I...
How is the EMM Labs DCC2 as a stand alone DAC
For a while, I used my Accuphase DP75V as a transport tothe DCC2 (via coax) & felt it was a substantial improvement tothe Accuphase by itself. It was smoother but with bettersoundstage and definition. This setup was no match for CDSD, however.
Cal audio difference btwn Tercet mk4 and Icon mk2
I had an Icon Mark 2 in the mid 90s(& had it upgraded with the "powerboss" option from CAL) & really liked it for it's day. I later upgraded to a Meridian 508.24 &did not think it was any better. It's very musical & relaxed.

Powercord to tame brightness and add musicality
I think that brightness & edginess are 2 separate qualities that are often lumped together when they should not. For example, Wilson speakers are edgy in my experience as an owner, but not bright. Some Aerial speakers (one owned 10ts) can be b...
Feedback, please on new Electraglide Mini Khan Plus
Quick update--picked up an Anaconda Alpha for the CDSD. In short, the best yet, mainly a more relaxed sound, but actually more detailed. I think this is a permanent cord for the CDSD. I did some switching around to check the best combo, and still ...
Pass XA100 or X350.5
I used to have an X350--a generally fine sounding amp, especially in mids & highs, but bass was a little opaque (using Aerial 10ts at first, later Wilson WP-6s). Switched to Edge NL12 (now with Kharma 3.2CRMs) & would never go back to Pass...
