Power Amps for Kharma
I use an Edge NL12 for my Kharma 3.2FEs. It is very smooth & the bass is superb, deep & extremely controlled--you would never know there was no woofer, but it never pounds you or sounds aggressive. It seems, more or less, as deep as my for...
Sennheiser upgraded cable Cardas/Equinox?
The Zu Mobius cable for the 650s is natural, neutral, and balanced sounding; it's very relaxed & smooth & not bright. (Brightness is something to be avoided at all costs with phones, IMHO.) It is much better than the Cardas (I have both.)P...
Progressive Rock
Often I read that rock (progressive or otherwise; is there regressive rock?) needs speakers with lots of bass. I think what is much more important is smooth, non-etched, non-tizzy highs & non-pushy or too-forward mids. There is enough of this ...
Best 5 engineered rock albums?
I'll toss in:Stevie Wonder-Innervisions;Joni Mitchell-Court & Spark;
Reimyo CDP vs EMM Labs/Meitner
I have both the DP75V & the EMM DCC2/CDSD. I listen primarily to redbook. Especially with revealing speakers, the EMM is far better than the Accuphase (which is still very respectable & listenable & smooth). The EMMs have a beautiful s...
NY HE Speaker Standouts
I think flrnlamb makes a very intelligent argument here, some really echoing my own thoughts that I have not heard elsewhere. I also feel that many speakers (& systems) fall on their faces with the challenge of reproducing, for lack of a bette...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?
Sennheiser HD650s (or Grado RS1s), Headroom Max.Big bucks are not needed get SOTA sound with a headphone system built around these.
NY HE Speaker Standouts
In response to flrnlamb's comment, I think there is still room for improvement, in that no speaker does all things best. I think the VS VR9s I mentioned above have the most liquid, mids & highs I ever heard, but Wilsons have wonderful bass, wh...
NY HE Speaker Standouts
I was extremely impressed by the Von Schweikert VR9 set-up (with Dartzeel amps, EMM digital, Jena Cables). I use vocals as an acid test, and these were the best I ever heard by far--a golden glow smoothness with no grain or gravely sound, but with...
Has anyone heared Piega C3 speakers?
I thought I was the only one who thought the Piega P10 drivers (separate midrange & tweeter ribbons) were much better than the newer Piega coaxial ribbons (that I heard on the C3), which did sound somewhat tizzy, where the P10's separate drive...
Kubala-Sosna & Meitner Emm Labs Gets my top Vote
Yep, the Kubala Emotion ICs are very fine, with extraordinary bass. They left my former Cardas Golden Refs (a good cable) in the dust. I own 2 pairs.
Which Solid State Amplifier is Making you Happy?
Edge NL-12--mine is smooth, relaxing, & has remarkable soundstaging & terrific quality (transparent) bass.
suggestions for a headphone amplifier
Interesting comment that the Zu cable is bright, as I think the Cardas cable is bright & that the Zu is actually mellower & even a little darker than the stock 650 cord. I'll add my agreement that the 650 is a very significant improvement ...
suggestions for a headphone amplifier
Don't forget to replace the stock 650 cord with the Zu Mobius one. I use a Headroom Max amp (with the new reference module that is in the latest version). This all works fine with me. Kubala Sosna Emotion ICs work well well with the 650s, as the I...
Cable Costs Relative to System
Rules of thumb never work in high end. Like the saying goes, all rules are made to be broken.
